Google Maps 5 on EVO

(I probably should have started a new thread on Google Maps 5 so here it is):

Anyone try Google Maps 5 yet on EVO?

Check out whole video but specifically 18sec-33sec, is this using compass, G-Sensor, GPS that the EVO has or also Nexus S' gyroscope:

Will Google Maps use gyroscope for new 3D features?
 
I updated my Google Maps but didn't really check it out til this point. The new features are pretty cool.

Not seeing the gyroscope feature that I think I saw in the video on my Evo. Anyone able to see the dyroscope in action?
 
hey guys, so i have version 4.6 for google maps. how do i get the new update? i checked the marketplace and checked for updates and it is not listed. there is the updated version of google maps that i could download. but i'm not sure i want to do that with limited space on my phone.

I just checked mine, I was running 4.7 I opened up the marker went to 'My apps' and opened the map app in my list of apps, when i backed out of it it told my there was an update. It downloaded 5.0 A restart will also do that for you, but to save some time you may try just opening the market and checking it.
 
compass works even when in the house. the pointer is moving/rotating as i walk about.

@thomas i think your right about the 3D view working on buildings. ill try this tomorrow when im downtown.

pretty cool update.

I dont have any big buildings around my town, It just shows a flat surface on an angle, But I do travel a lot so i imagine i will see it at some point.

I am digging the update though. :)
 
i don't see any of the 3d effects on my EVO.the map tilts but there aren't any buildings,just a plain are.maybe my setting are wrong or there's some kind of glitch.
 
I dont understand why you have to download the program.

Maps+navigaiton came with my phone, but it is not updating to version 5. Do i have to uninstall maps and reinstall it form the market? (market says "Install", instead of "Open") I know its installede, as I have used it...
 
Are you looking at a city that has 3D buildings, like Chicago? You have to use two fingers at the same time and pull down on the screen to move. Also, make sure that you don't have any layers on.
 
Im inside the building and i can tell you that arrow is exactly the area i am in right when i popped that photo. so yeah it works inside.. :)

if facing the building from the street, i am above the starbucks and a few yards from the window where that arrow is. im also right on that level of the building. pretty slick big brother'ish stuff. using latitude i can see a friend over in asia off his droid... lol google man... these jokers.... lol

Can someone help me please. Google Maps 5.0 is stuck in download mode. Rebooting the phone does not help and download also will not cancel...

You have to download it because this is Google's way of moving the app into the Market, that way they don't have to upgrade it with a firmware update they can just update it as an app. Once you install it the pre-installed app is upgraded.
 
holy crap, I just went to the market to check for this and it is completely different. When did the market change?
 
Yea they said it only shows the buildings in like 100 cities world wide cause i did Paris to see if the had Eiffel tower but they don't yet

This new EVO says version 4.4 in manage applications/Maps info how do I get it to update to 5.0? I've rebooted, don't see auto update, I thought 2.2 was all auto-update? I really wanted to check out 5.0 asap..:eek:
 
lol since you started the thread i figured you had it! lol.

2.x is auto update but you have to check the box in the market under the app to allow auto updating.

power down the phone, remove battery for a minute, go ahead and power up. go to market and try again.

do you have the new market? im still on the old market..

:D Just got EVO last night, almost went with Nexus S that was sporting Maps 5.0. I was going to try that but I was supposed to leave like 15 minutes ago:eek: Market says v2.2.7 is that the latest?

I've got 5.0 now, way cool:cool:
