Help Google maps is killing me

Google maps is killing me.
It always seems to be running even if i Force Stop. The ironic thing is when i want to use it to navigate it keeps crashing, switching the phone off and o again. Not very useful when driving.
I have nicked the wifes tomtom to make sure i get to my business mtgs.
Any ideas please.
Also I am staring to suffer from massive battery drain and am not happy at all.

Stop force stopping it! Battery probably getting worse because you keep killing a service that restarts.

The FC may be because a vital service required by maps is constantly being FC'd.

All of the above is maybe. Has this always happened, or only recently?
