Help google maps running all the time?

Like many of you, I'm having issues whereby Maps freezes and sometimes FCs on me. Worse, occasionally, the DX gets completely stuck after Maps freezes. Leaving it alone for a few minutes results in a reboot on its own. Hrmpf. It's been like this for the last two 'updates'.

i get no FC's with Maps, but recently its just using battery when it wasn't before...

now...i really shouldn't be complaining...because as I sit here im at 2 Days 2 hours and 36 minutes since unplugged, with 30% battery remaining...

BUTTTTT...I have not even opened Maps in that time and its used 3% of my battery...

I'm wondering if a 3rd party app is calling Google Maps or if Google Maps itself is loading for location based services.

I have a application running on my Android 2.2 called Watchdog Lite, it monitors applications and if it thinks a app is hogging to much or for too long cpu cycles it will sound a alert and give the user the option to kill the process.

Frequently, after using the map application for driving navigation, a while later after I close the app, the Watchdog program alerts me that the aps app is continuing to hog CPU cycles.

I have not tried the cleard data option yet. I will give that a try.
