Google Maps Update Unsuccessful???

Good morning all. Someone please help. I received the alert to update Google Maps to 4.2, but everytime I try to install the update, I keep getting Update Unsuccessful (tried 5 times with resetting after each installation attempt). What could be the problem? Do I need to remove 4.1.1 first? I don't undertstand why I would as all other updates automatically replace the old/existing file. I emailed the developer, but no response has been received. Suggestions/fixes are welcome!!!!

And I'm still suffering from disappearing text conversations with stock messenging. I tried to download Handcent, and it wouldn't work. Oh well...

Seems kinda strange and no you don't have to uninstall, just update. Maybe due to a lack of signal during the update effort? If you're currently running Wi-Fi, maybe try the mobile network connection only instead. Just a thought.
 
i am getting the same thing. i checked the google mobile maps forums and those that got it complain about alot of problems, i am thinking google is stopping to download until they can fix it. read alot of posts from every type of android phone and right now no one can get the maps update.

This particular Maps update seems to be a problem for a lot of people.

However, when it's simply tacked on to you also having disappearing text conversations and inability to download Handcent, I think you may have some other issues with your phone.
 
I had the same problem earlier, and it updated fine once I was at work with a stable 3G connection. My signal was variable during the first few attempts and it failed.
 
Cool, I'm at my desk at work, where the signal is not strong, but viable enough for text, data and calls. Nevertheless, I'll try it when I go out for lunch. I walk outside of the building and get 3 bars immediately. Maybe that's it. I didn't try it until I got to work and read on various sites that it available and got the update alert on my phone (around the same time...7ish). Thanks guys. I'll update after lunch. Fingers crossed. LOL
 
Cool Mikibee! I'm going try in just a few minutes. I downloaded the Handcent fine, and the app apeared in my list and on the phone. It's just that when I clicked on it to text, nothing happened. It jumped back to my home screen. So I clicked the stock messenging app thinking they'd ask me for an option for input (like the browsers), and nothing. It showed my regular stock messages. I'll try that again too. Thanks all. Wish me luck cuz I LOVE THIS PHONE!!!
 
Just tried again here at work and it failed again. I wonder if by using HistoryEraser app it hosed something?
 
not working for me either. tried on my home wifi then again on mobile network and i always have a strong signal. will try again later.
 
I had the same issue this morning on my Eris. Just keep trying to update. I think their servers are just slammed right now with all the android users trying to update.
 
GOT IT!!! (while waiting on my Singapore Noodles :o)

Now, let me check on Handcent again. And I do notice that the disappearing texts thing happens if during a conversation the signal takes too long to change from 3G to 1X and the little x(no signal) appears for a milisecond. I've read comments in the Handcent app on the market that people have lost conversations while using it as well, so maybe it's a network issue. The phone doesn't manage the texts (it's hardware to use the function)...seems more like a network or software bug. Everything else works fine.

Did I mention that I LOVE THIS PHONE!!! LOL :p
 
Got mine to install a little while ago. Was no big deal to me since I don't use Google Maps. At least not yet. I have nav in my car so don't really use it.

Something about navigation in the launcher app
the ability to send location via email,sms,IM
and 2 or 3 other things that I can't remember. something about layers maybe
