Google Maps

Google Maps were on the phone when I got it and I'm curious are these maps used with the gps or directional navigation? Or are they for something else. I see some people consider them bloat and get rid of them.
 
The "maps" are actually on Google servers "in the cloud". You can download small sections onto SD, but that's not done automatically. NAV uses Maps to navigate. The 2 apps work together (or Maps is used by itself just to find a place). They are only bloatware if you use another Nav app (like Copilot).

I use both Google Maps and Navigation. Works great in the city. I've got Map Droid for when I know I'll be in a dead zone. Haven't had a chance to travel in a coons age,so I really don't know how well it works.
 
I glad you saw the potential for some one to make something out of nothing. Thanks for the link.
My comment was only used to express the length of time it's been since I've had a vacation .
I've got a ton of these type of expressions that paint a picture. Like slicker than snot on a brass door knob. I'm so hungry my belly thinks my throat"s been cut. It raining so hard it sounds like a cow pissing on a flat rock. Etc.,etc. None of which are meant to imply anything racial or unchristian like.

Latest version of Google Maps and Navigation is suppose to work if you go out of coverage, but I haven't actually tried that either. Also I suspect that it's meant if you only go out of coverage for brief amount of times.

Also with Google Maps, if you go into settings>More>Labs and enable Pre-Cache of maps if you know you're going to be out of coverage. While you may not have directions, at least you'll have a map of where you are.
