Help Google Navigation problems

drdfresh

Newbie
I've been having two issues with Google Navigation recently.

1. When I try to navigate using contacts it states:
"You Don't have any contacts with addresses.
You can add new contacts or set addresses for existing contacts in the contact app."

I have pleny of contacts with addresses and up until yesterday, they always showed up in Navigation.

2. Since Sunday, the map has been freezing up. The written directions at the top still follow along as I drive but the map will freeze and not follow the car any longer. I have to exit out and restart navigation to get the map moving again. It's pretty annoying

I rely pretty heavily on Google navigation. I'd hate to break out my old Tom Tom again because I really like the app.

An ideas? If it matters I'm running xtrROM 5.0.1. The maps/navigation version I have is 5.8.0.

Thanks.

Have you tried clearing cache or data for google maps or navigation (I don't know if this keeps separate data or not)?

Google Maps 5.8.0 just came out two days ago, I think. Is it still acting up? Lots of Eris users were having problems with a few versions before that, over the last three weeks or so.

What you may want to do is to the following:

- boot into Recovery and make a Nandroid backup (just in case),
- restart ad uninstall Google Maps from the market
- restart in recovery and do a Dalvik wipe, (do not wipe data/factory reset)
- then reinstall xtrSENSE over when you have now

This may bring back an older version of Google Maps. If this works, just leave that version and never update Google Maps.

If it messes stuff up, you would have the Nandroid to restore to go back to where you are now.

So I uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Map updates and I was still not able to access my contacts. However, When I uninstall the updates, it brings it down to version 5.0.0 and the contacts are back. I'll have to try it later to see if the navigation map still freezes up. If it doesn't, I'll leave it at that version until Google updates again.

Thanks for your help doogald.

I'm glad someone made this topic. Recently I've been having problems with google navigation as well. Not exactly the same issue as the original post, but the navigator frequently freezes up or sometimes even restarts the phone. Perhaps uninstalling google maps to an older version will fix this seeing how I didn't have this problem before.

Ok, so that was much better than my suggested uninstall and flash xtrSENSE again. I'm glad that worked.

5.2 seems to be the version of choice over on the xda forums. Some have had luck with 5.5 but anything above that and there are issues on all roms.
