Google Nexus S Released!!!!!!

yeah.. i saw that...

but i am not feeling it..
other than the new curve screen, android 2.3.

it has 16gb internal memory, but no sdmicro slot!!!!!

what does it have over the current Galaxy S phones?
 
Yeah it was a bit of a disappointment. Right now the only thing it has going for it IMO is gingerbread out of the box!

i do not consider that an upgrade...
1. some dont like the basic basic android
2. you can root and a) load a basic ROM; b)delete all bloat

I vote.. google dont let this phone be the next Nexus!
it is a Galaxy S phone.. and call it Galaxy Curve.. similar to the fascinate, captivate, and epic

Then this phone is not for you. Just get another phone, and stop trying to ruin the one phone that I intend to purchase. There are dozens of Android phones for you to choose from, many with better specs, and usually pre-bloated and tightly locked to one single carrier.

But I'm definitely going to get this phone because:
1. It is not a super-phone. It has moderate specs with a comfortable price tag.
2. No carrier lock-in. I can buy it without signing any contracts.
3. It is completely unlocked and can be used on any and all GSM carriers all over the world.
4. I don't have to root it to gain control over it.
5. There's no crapware! Or TouchWiz.
6. I like the basic basic Android. Step away from my basic basic Android!
7. I don't have to depend on Samsung or the carrier to (not) update my OS.
 
thanks for your approval... I will not buy the Nexus S.

wish you all happiness with this phone. there is a phone flavor for each of us.

Which one do you guys think it's a superphone? i.e. I am about to buy a new phone (never owned a smartphone before), what would you recommend?

since you have never owned a smartphone... it makes it hard to answer.

Do you have some desire to "tinker"?
do you like to dig a "little" deeper?
If I pulled all the wires out of the back of your full home entertainment system and rest all settings (date and time too).. can you plug it all back and think it interesting?

If all your answers are YES: get an android and be free

if any answer is NO: get iphone

(not correct for all users.. you can be somewhere in between)
 
nexus S will initial be released on T-mobile. no other carriers have announced anything about it.

but att and tm have GSM.. so you should be able to run it on att. if you want to pay full price for the phone. it is an unlocked phone.

That's why I'm getting it, stock Android and you don't have to worry about Samsung not updating it since all the updates will come directly from Google. Can't wait to pick mine up and take my MyTouch 4G back to best buy next week!

Same exact thing I'm doing...Bringing my MT4G right back to best buy in exchange for the Nexus S.

get any android 2.2 or wait a few days for 2.3, get an n8 with symbian if you want, but dont get iphone 4, apple=slavery

I'm not going to start a back and forth here, but you need to stop saying android is for a tinkerer and iphone is not. BOTH Android and iPhone come fairly restricted, and to make either useful they have to be broken into (Rooted on Android, Jailbroken on iPhone). To say one can be tinkered with and one cannot is a joke. Anyone who knows how to use google will find there's just as much you can do with an iPhone as an Android. At the end of the day it's personal preference, etc. Device selection, Android wins for having so many. Carrier selection, Android. But at the end of the day, most people who have used both, like me, who know how to take full advantage of the unofficial hacks for both, agree that iPhone is a more solid OS. However, with 2.3 I'd say they're probably even, and I'd bet if you ask me in 6 months when 2.4 or 3.0 hits I'll probably flip and agree Android has pulled ahead.

If you cant at least provide fact (both OS are hackable and can be tinkered with down to any pixel or function on the device), you just spread misinformation.

you are correct about one thing... i dont want to start the back and forth either... so I agree to disagree.
 
Because this phone has 3G freqs for Europe (as well as Tmobile US) I am tempted. Still, no hurry.. Think I am going to wait till Mar/Apr to see what comes available. That dual core from Motorola seems interesting, and hopefully HTC is going to do something with dual cores.. If nothing more interesting is available by then, well I'm sure this will still be available.
