Root google now on motion?

When I use it, the Red pulsing Microphone comes up and when I ask it something, it brings me to a google search. What did I do wrong?
 
Quick question whats the difference between google now and the google voice search thing that comes with the phone?

Google now is the siri type search that displays information on little "cards" and it learns from your location and search trends. It acts as a personal assistant with voice responses and can dictate messages or notes for you, set alarms and announces your calendar appointments with a notification. This could be something like "its time to leave for work leave by 8:45 to make it to work by 9:30 (5 min delay)" provides good sports tracking and player stats in a way that's very different from the browser Google interface. It's just pretty and useful.

My nexus 7 organizes my appointments and work schedule. I would love to have this on my Motion but I can't figure it out :confused:
 
If someone could write up a little more detailed instructions on how to get this working I'd really appreciate it... I merged the contents of the system folder from the zip into my system folder and I didn't see anything so I rebooted and it's still the regular voice search, I've looked in the settings and noticed a new option (maybe? Could be the mj:D) but I can't find anything to enable Google now... I'm puzzled since there isn't much info on this method most other phones you would use a recovery like I'm used to... (spoiled) how can I fix permissions on this phone? I noticed a few of you had to do this but I can't seem to figure it out.

Edit: I used Es file explorer as root to merge the folders... I got a confirmation that the folder was merged successfully
 
I seem to have it working, at least somewhat. I have the Google Now interface, but I'm not sure I'm getting any different results. So far, the only voice prompt I've received is asking it what time it is.

I saw the post above to use Root Explorer to merge the included system folder with your device's system folder, and since I have RE I decided to try it. Didn't work... It said it merged the folders but it didn't copy anything over. I'm guessing that's why it's not working for some of you.

Bite the bullet and copy the files manually. That's how I got the interface working. But I had to change permissions on all of the files and folders too, and I might have missed a few. I think that's why it seems to not be working correctly, so I'll work on it more later.
 
So I re-copied the files manually instead of just merging the folders... But what permissions do the files need to have? I still see no difference with interface or anything...
 
Follow the links to the original XDA thread and it'll tell you the permissions to check.

Once I rebooted after copying the files, I was prompted that Android was updating. After that, the Google search bar changed and I get the Google Now prompt when I tap it.

Seems to be working, idk yet...

edit: oh yea, it's workin' B-)

You can set the permissions with root explorer too by long pressing the file / apk and tapping permissions. No need for terminal emulator, every step necessary can be done in root explorer ;)

yeah i just figured that out after posting my guide... o well i just followed the instructions from someone else, at least its working
 
I suck, I changed the permissions to what was said on that site and still nothing i must be doing something wrong

I just wanted to add that after updating to the latest firmware, and after meticulously hand-placing every Google Now file and setting its permissions, Google Now would not come back until I did this.

Just moved it and the ODEX from the system app folder to the user app folder.
 
does any one know were i can get the update for GOO NOW and how do i add cards, sample cards get annoying.

In my experience, the cards should work automatically. Make sure you go into GNow's settings and set the various options (favorite sports teams, car/public transit, home or location weather, etc) and if you want the travel notifications to work, you'll at least need to set up Latitude to the point where it allows Google to track you and set your home and work locations.

Once it's configured, cards shoud appear automatically. You pretty much need coarse location (at the minimum, GPS best), background data, and even WiFi full-time for best performance.

Regarding the update, we'll have to wait for someone with JB to share the files I suppose.
 
Does anybody know how to update it. I have everything set up perfect but I can't update its not compatible with my device on Google play
 
I installed google now and it works really well the traffic feature works and everything. One question i had is what app does google now use for the notes like when u tell it to remind u to do something it will start processing then crash like the app it needs is missing. Also cant update like the previous post says. Any information would be appreciated
 
I got the interface to come up but for some reason it will not search anything or did I do something wron don't gotta redownload the zip try it again what does anybody have any advice on thi what does anybody have any advice on this 1 because does work
I'm getting the error googles text to speech engine has stopped. ???
 
If you have trouble just flash it through cwm its helluva lot easier. I did steps it failed and flashing worked fine
