Root Google Now Question

the only time i can get google now to talk is when i say weather. Is that normal?
It doesn't speak every time. For it to do so...
Your wording has to be correct.

I still haven't figured out all the phrases and wording to get it to talk.
There's a few youtube video tutorials that may help.

I love google now. :D

This app is the shizz!! I'm loving this app!

Do I always have to leave Google's location on to get the cards to show up?

So I've noticed with Google now on my phone it won't call any contact, or text, or anything that would use my device like apps. All it does really is Google search related things. In some of those YouTube videos it shows the app texting contacts calling contacts etc. Is there something I need to set up or something I'm missing? With my experience I've only been able to use it for weather and travel to my work and back, it didn't identify my home, I had to manually put it in to navigator app. How exactly is this thing suppose work, cause so far it's not acting like the videos show very much...

Strange... It works flawlessly for me, calls contacts and all. Aside from turning on location, I did nothing else to set it up.

It's working for me, text, calling and all. I noticed though that I have to make sure I speak clearly. I would guess if you have any sort of accent, you might have problems with it.

It's made for us Northern folks you know... lol:aetsch::fight::pcguru:

So what exactly do you say to it to make it activate calls/text/etc? I've noticed that when I use commands like "call ... or text..." there's a bar at the bottom that I can shuffle through and can access the "dialer/text messaging" to make the call or text. I thought that by saying said command now would go to dialer/text automatically..

I just learned that it will tell you sports scores, which is totally awesome.

Just for the hell of it because I was bored, I asked it, "What is the score of the Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazer game?" It responded, "The Jazz are down by 10 to the Trail Blazers at half-time, 42 to 52." It even gave me scores from yesterday when I asked, "What was the score of the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks game?" It responded "The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 113 to 103."

Just to be clear, this is more Google voice search than Google now.

Google now can alert you to sports scores as well, but it shows up as a card in your notifications

Well, I've never had Google Voice Search tell me with speech the information I was looking for. I figured that feature was part of Google Now.

The card aspect is Google now, but asking your phone questions vocally that it searches on Google has been around since at least gingerbread (voice search).

Speaking back to you is a new(er) addition, but I'd consider it relatively minor given the true power of the rest of Google now.

I like win7. I loathe win8 with a passion. its an abomination.

im going to guess you never messed with it for more than 2 days my friend has it on his computer and that was shipped with vista its pretty cool when you posh the start button

I wonder why I'm having such trouble getting this thing to work the way you guys say it should :(

I've used it more than two days. I don't care for the live tiles. and the legacy portion is bland. The whole thing doesn't work. It needed to be two separate OS's one for touch screens and one for PC. I perfer the real start menu not the tiles.

I think there's no difference between Voice Search and Google Now....or that's just me

There's definitely large differences.

For example... When I'm standing at a bus stop every morning Google now knows I'm near a bus stop based on my location and will automatically place a card in my notification bar showing me the bus schedule for that stop... When the next bus is coming and where its going.

Better yet, Google now knows I'm heading to class, and can tell me when I need to leave my house and what bus to catch to get there on time.

All of this is done automatically, without me ever saying anything to the phone.

That's Google now. That's what apple only dreams it could have in a product like siri.

Now one thing I'm still noticing is that when I set an email account to my Google Now app I'm still getting the error message "Couldn't opt in to Latitude, check location in Maps" now I know my location is set to home in Maps. So is there something I'm missing??

I use Maluuba for my little personal assistant. It's free on the Play Store and it's just as good if not better than Siri. I have the widget on my homescreen so I all have to press is the microphone button and ask it anything you would ask Google Now/Siri etc :D
