Google now

I installed Google Now on my phone today. It looks nice but so far I'm not impressed at all.

I search for an app on my phone and it brings up a Google search result first. It was much better before when I could just do a search and launch the app.

I ask a question, and the spoken response is just "searching for ..." then a list of search results. If I ask for the weather forecast I thought it would speak that back to me, or at least show the card for that day for that location.

Very disappointed so far :-(

Judging by the amount of posts you have made and your activity on this site, I'm guessing your not a complete noob. To be honest i didn't know you can install Google Now seperatly, let alone on a SGS2. The voice feature is probably going to be the last for hackers to get working, because... well i don't know the specifics, but I hear its complicated. I'd be wondering if your not mistaking using the old voice command system as opposed to the new 4.1 assistant. I tried the whole Jellybean ROM out on my Nexus S, but did not have a chance to try out the voice control as it was broken, just like the wifi and mobile data at the time -_- Check back in a month or so, your opinion might have changed then!

Chris, it takes a while for Now to work well. I'm not terribly impressed myself with it on my Nexus but I know it's still very beta. One thing you can do is go into Maps and pin your home and work addresses so it gets a better idea for travel times.
I've found the public transit times to work well for me on Metro bus and rail.

Google Now seems to work really well for me on the Nexus 7 and JB Galaxy Nexus that I got at Google IO. A little freakishly well, actually. Big brother is always watching...

It might be possible the Google now you have is not the one, or up to par with Jelly Bean. I can't remember at the moment but I read on a website that the voice to text technology wasn't the same used in JB when this individual was providing it for folks with ICS and rooted.

I'm not super impressed with Google Now in terms of the cards but the voice search on the JB ROM I'm using on the Nexus is out of this world. For me, it doesn't bring up a Google list. Its been using my location and when I say something like navigate to x, it brings it and only it up and self starts nav. Same thing with general queries...it seems to bring up the exact thing I'm asking for every time with expanded info for that item only. Then it does provide other Google search hits but I seldom need them because its so intuitive.
