Help Google Play Pop Up Ad

skplante

Lurker
I recently made the switch from an iPhone to an LG G3. I love it until recently. I've noticed that full screen pop-up ads appear randomly even if I'm not using any apps. Even if I'm just sitting staring at the home screen. The pop-up ads appears to be Google Play "Recommended for you" ads. I've scoured the Internet trying to find anyone else having this problem. I've found only a few posts but zero solutions or explanations. If you click the ad it does in fact take you to Google Play app store. I've installed Lookout security and scanned my phone and found nothing - no malware nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? If this really is coming from Google Play then I'm furious. With what we pay for phones and apps it's insanity they can freely spam my phone. If it's not them can anyone tell me what's up? And how to stop the insanity? Thanks so much!

I used AirPush and it found 1 app that's the culprit. Not it'll be a wait and see to be sure that did the trick. Thanks so much for the tip!
Hi! I'm having the same problem, but I can't find the app that's causing the issue. Can you remember WHICH APP was causing your problem? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Also having that issue. I found an article that explains it. Happening on Apple as well.

This is how I fixed the problem..

I've opted out of the ads, and they still keep popping up. I tried downloading adware by Keerby, but it said there was an error and it couldn't download it. I don't want to factory reset my phone to figure this out. All the ads that pop up are for the google play store, but so far none of the detectors work... This sucks...

I had this issue couple of months. I tried everything until i figured out that it was MP3 Downloader app
which caused random pop ups, i removed that shit. And no ads popping anymore, i guess i was lucky because
it was first app which i removed. But after all, this problem is not related to Google.
First, remove your suspicious apps.

I've been an Android user since December 2014 and I FINALLY FOUND OUT HOW TO GET RID OF THOSE !@#$% ADS!

This doesn't require rooting, nor does it even require any additional software!

I found out the ads use the default browser, which I never use -- I use Chrome. Whenever the ads come up, the browser program is open.

So if you do not use the default Browser app and use Chrome, do this:

1. Open Chrome.
2. Click on the menu icon (3 vertical dots) and go to "Settings."
3. Go to "Site Settings."
4. Go to "Notifications."
5. Switch it to "Blocked."
6. Exit out of Chrome.
7. Open your G3's "Settings" app.
8. Select "General" in the top menu.
9. Select "Apps."
10. Swipe left 3 times so the top menu is selected to "ALL."
11. Select "Browser" (the globe icon)
12. Click on "Force Stop." (if it gives you a warning, just proceed with the action)
13. Click on "Disable." (if it gives you a warning, just proceed with the action)
14. Deselect "Show Notifications."
15. Click on "Clear Data."
16. Click on "Clear Cache."
17. Exit out of the settings and enjoy. :)

Did not work for me

I had the same problem and tried everything! I finally absent-mindedly mentioned it to a woman from Sprint. She gave me the ANSWER! It was my free music download app! I deleted it and the pop-ups immediately stopped. Just to make sure, I reinstalled the app and they started all over again! I just found one called MP3 Music that has a multi-colored, round icon with a double music note inside of it...it has not caused these issues like the last app. I'll post a pic.

Thanks for the info - I just deleted my "Simple MP3" app - its the only one that was a new addition when I got my new phone. Let's hope that is it. I did read up on some feedback on the app and everyone says its ad ridden! SO ANNOYING!

I have a note 3 I reviewed all the information above. On the Note 3 the browery will not all me to do that. I have no game apps and no mp3 apps. The minute I swipe my phone on I get a pop google play app store to install (various things: Anti-theft, Cleaners, Games, etc... ). It is the google play store. The problem is when I get a call it will pop up and I have to spend time trying to x out of how ever many pop up. Also, my alarm will not work anymore because when it goes off it a pop up comes up and no sound after that. I have tried just about everything but a factory reset... I do not want to do that, but if it is the only option I will. any suggestions???

You have something on your phone, otherwise, you wouldn't be getting the pop-ups.
Run in Safe mode & then,by process of elimination, you'll know the culprit.
If the pop-ups persist in Safe Mode without enabling any downloaded apps,a factory reset is in order & be wary of clicking on anything in your browsers & check the permissions for apps you d/l from the GooglePlayStore.
If the permissions seem a bit intrusive, those are likely the ones that are causing the pop-ups.DO NOT INSTALL THESE APPS.

Opting out like that only makes it to where the ads are not taylored to you personally but youll still get ads just the same but all this doesnt matter because this is NOT the problem that we have. Its clrearly adware!!!#!!###!!

I have an HTC One M8 that started this nonsense immediately after downloading the Lollipop update. I tried everything I could think of including: adware detector apps, malware detector apps, Antivirus apps, deleting suspect apps, every setting I could find referencing ads, and fully resetting my phone. Nothing worked. I kept missing phone calls because the ads would block the screen & by the time I cleared them the caller was gone. Additionally, my phone kept opening itself as it sat by itself or when I opened it, it would go straight to an ad or to an app for download.

I finally stopped this by going into the app draw, clicking settings and choosing 'manage apps'. Then clicking each app, choosing 'notifications' and turning off the 'allow peeking' setting. Problem solved. Worked for me so far & I hope it works for you.... Good luck

Im actually facing the same problem, but i found out which application is responsible for these pop up by using appbrain ad detector, and the answer is com. android. core. network and Smsmanager. I guess i have been hacked because these are android default program and they should be safe .

My only question, is it possible to delete them and what will happen to my phone without them???

I didn't read the whole thread but when I had a similar problem to HD925 I did a Factory Reset and everything was fine afterwards. Putting all my apps back wasn't that hard.
