Google Play says these apps are incompatible...WRONG!

I downloaded This Rom on my SGH-i727-r Galaxy phone. Works great. Problem is, I get a lot of apps that it says are incompatible.

One was an app I bought pre-flash, that it wouldn't let me see in the store. Fortunately I did a titanium backup and so I have it back! And sure enough, it works FINE.

The second was the Bell Media App (lets you listen to Canadian AM/FM stations online; I want to use it for my local sports station), and CBC music's new android app.

Given that the two apps I really really want are Canadian content exclusive, I'm assuming this has SOMETHING to do with flashing an American ROM (i.e., for the AT&T skyfire) to a Canadian phone (The Rogers version).

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I've seen some fixes where I go into a file editor and tweak with my system files to make the phone think it's a Nexus S. Is this a good idea? I don't know if that's really the right fix for this, or if it's something simpler.

Thanks in advance! :)

Just out of curiosity, what does Google think your tab is? If your tablet got associated with a carrier, you might have answered your own question.

I ran into stuff like that with Nokia/OVI.

Im having this same issue with my Ainol Novo 7 Advanced 2 tablet.
Theres a lot of apps i cant install from play store because play store sais "is not compatible with my device", (for example google maps). But i googled google maps apk, downloaded it and installed it directly, and it worked PERFECTLY.

If someone has any info on wich configuration files on the tablet i need to edit (and to what values) to trick play store into thinking i got another tablet, i would really appreciate it.

It's a phone, actually. If I log into Google Play on my computer, it identifies the model number correctly (Samsung Galaxy sgh-i727R), yet it still seems to think that the apps are now suddenly incompatible.

I have had a few apps that where not compatible with my phone that work fine. Some because the dev just hadn't listed my phone as compatible, some because my carrier blocked them (usually tether apps, etc), and some because I had upgraded my OS before the manufacturer.

When it is "incompatible" it is just hit or miss whether it actually works or not.

I'm 100% certain the Bell Media app works, as I also had that on gingerbread (and forgot to back up, lol...). I can only assume that the CBC music works as well. Like I said, all of these "not available" issues came after I flashed my new ROM, which judging by the inclusion of S voice and AT&T visual voicemail, I'm guessing is based on a SGSIII American ICS.

This is annoying me...I don't suppose anyone cool would care to just send me the APK to these files, would they?*** I just want to listen to CBC radio! :(

*** I hope I'm not breaking some forum rule by asking. These are, after all, free apps, so I don't think this qualifies as piracy!

How do I figure out what carrier it thinks I'm on?

It should say it on the computer website. Go to Google Play on your internet browser, log in, then try and download the app that you want (in this case CBC Radio) and where it says that the game can't be downloaded, click on the down box arrow and again click on another drop down box arrow where it says 'what device you want to install this application on' and it should say your carrier next to your phone company and what your phone is.

Mine seems to be pretty accurate, I use to be with Vodaphone (despite my phone not even being able to be on this company) and then recently switched to Optus and on that day, Google Play noticed I had changed carrier companies.

They're still copyrighted though, and anything installed by one user on their handset is only licensed to that Google account.

I suspect the incompatibility issue is caused by the build.prop file in the new ROM identifying the handset as a plain SGH-i727 rather than the Canadian R-variant, and you're running into licensing problems. It's possible to edit the file - best to ask for advice in the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket section.

Wifi only Coby is not a TMO device. I sideloaded Market on it. Someone did explain why Google saw it as TMO, but I can't find the link.

If Market is included on device, Google Play seems to get it right.

Thanks!

In that case, it DOES recognize the R, but this isn't helping my cause....I tried blindly changing stuff in my build.prop file. If that sounds like a bad idea, that's probably because it was...lol.

Have you had compatibility issues when downloading apps from the Play Store?

Thanks for the response!

Actually, my phone started downloading CBC radio and Bell media again. It's weird. I think the app developers must have changed something. Perhaps it was just because I had ICS before the Rogers release, and that caused density issues?

Thanks for responding, just the same!

I bought dictadroid on my 2.1 phone. When I updated to 2.3.3, the google play said my phone was no longer compatible. It also said the same thing for my galaxy tab running 3.2. Luckily, I had backed up the app with my file manager ES explorer. I was able to load the backed up apk both on the 2.3.3 phone and the 3.2 tab. Does not show up on my list of installed apps, but works.
