Help Google Wallet on the VZW Galaxy Nexus

Mine still says prepaid unavailable. Seems like those of us that activated them prior to the outage are SOL.

I activated prior to the outage (when the updated apk first became available on xda --- maybe a month ago), and mine works great. I was thinking it might be those who activate after or during the outages who are having problems...

Anyone who reset after the whole security debacle is going to get the Unavailable problem its still not fixed. New activations or if you havent made a reset since DONT or youll be SOL

There was an update to Google Wallet today. I have had it installed ever since the market trick was discovered. How do I go about updating to the newest version of wallet released today?

Im worried that if i have to wipe the phone or get a replacement device, that this work around will be patched, and ill be stuck with a copy of wallet that isnt attached to the market. I understand that we can link apk's to the market using titanium back up (if i decide to root) is this true?

If you have the market version, just go to my apps in the market and update like any other app you have downloaded.

Mine just updated on its own a few minutes ago.

and be aware, if you ever are going to wipe the device, you should reset the wallet app first (from within the wallet app, don't just clear the data), or you can end up with a "bricked" secure element.

That is unfortunately the side effect of having an unsupported phone I guess. Perhaps someday Verizon will get their head on straight and allow it to be supported. Yeah, I'm dreaming here.

Exactly, but if you do this right now (like if you switch ROMS), youll end up with the Unavailable problem because theyve stopped provisioning to people who already have accounts so youll be stuck like the rest of us waiting for them to fix it.. see my post above.. wallet has been useless to us for about two weeks now whenever those people exposed that security hole

Yeah, my prepaid card has been unavailable since I upgraded to 4.0.4. Was hoping that update last night was going to fix it.

I was able to upgrade to 4.0.4 without losing my prepaid card... Did you do a data wipe? I only wiped cache and dalvik.

I reset the wallet before upgrading, didn't wipe anything else. Was just being overly cautious as there is no fix for a bricked secure element other than to get a new phone, which Verizon probably won't give you since google wallet isn't officially supported.

And just to clarify, you have to reset the wallet from within the app, clearing the data from the app or doing a factory reset isn't enough.

There is a workaround, it goes a little something like this:

On your phone, open up the market in your browser (market.android.com)

Make sure you are signed out.

Search for Wallet, and when the results come up, press the wallet ICON, not the install button.

On the next screen, press install, and it will ask you to sign in.

When you sign in, it will show you aren't able to install.

(This whole time, if your phone prompts you to choose between market and browser, choose browser).

Now press back on your browser, until you get the choice between browser and market again... This time choose Market. It will allow you to download the app.

(If you have your phone setup to default to Market, you will need to clear that setting before you are able to use this method)
Tried 3 different times...each time when I get to the step to choose market, it still says not available for my device...BOO...I'm fairly certain its user error tho.

Try again, I just go it to work. For some reason the options popped up for me this time and I went to browser first, last time I wasn't getting that option. I also used browser instead of chrome beta, if that makes a difference.

Once I got into the Market portion, it said not offered by your carrier but it started downloading it anyway.

So I now have version 1.1 - R52v7

Yeah, I can confirm this does not work with Chrome Beta - Chrome just opens everything up in the browser by default.

To the person(s) having trouble:

You need to clear your defaults for the Browser and Market if it isn't asking you what app you want to use to open the links.

If you've done this, while your navigating to the app download button - you need to keep selecting "Browser" all the way up until you reach the grayed out "Install" button. At this point, you hit "back" and it will ask you, again, what app you want to use. THIS TIME you select "Market".

The Android Market will now open and you will be right at the "Accept & Install" page. At the top, it will say that your carrier does not support this app BUT the button is NOT disabled and you can tap it to install Google Wallet anyway.

I tried.. hope I didn't make it sound more complicated.

I did see something the other day about Google working to fix this work-around. So it is possible they have finally fixed it, which means you will need to side-load an apk from now on.

They also did something now that adds a flag at the top of the screen that says "unsupported device".. If you get this it can be removed with a reset but be aware provisioning still hasn't been restored to previous users so if it's working for you put up with it or when you reset you'll get the unavailable BS

Was just about to write a post about how I couldn't get it to work, but it just did, woohoo! For anyone that's wondering, it should still be possible.

Just got an email from google wallet explaining they disabled it and that it is now working again. They also added an additional $5 to my account for the inconvenience!!!

Subject: You can now add your Google Prepaid Card back to your Google Wallet

Hello,

As you may have experienced over the last few weeks, we temporarily disabled the feature to add the Google Prepaid Card back to your wallet if you previously removed the card or reset your wallet. We temporarily disabled this feature to ensure the security of our Wallet customers. We recognize this may have been an inconvenience for you, and we did not make this decision lightly.

We are happy to announce that you can now add the Google Prepaid Card back to your wallet with the newest version of Google Wallet, and any funds that you previously had on the card should be restored, unless you contacted Money Network and asked for a refund of those funds. To add the Google Prepaid Card back, you will first need to update your Google Wallet application to the most recent version.

To compensate you for any inconvenience this may have caused, we have credited an additional $5 (five US dollars) to your Google Prepaid Card. If you have further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at 855-492-5538.

Thank you for your continued support of Google Wallet, and we look forward to launching many new and exciting features for you to enjoy in the coming months.

Sincerely,
The Google Wallet Team

I uninstalled the sideloaded .apk and attempted the workaround... but it's not working for me. Can anyone confirm this loophole is fixed (and anyone have the address of the updated apk?)
