Google+

Yeah, it says it is coming soon to iOS on the intro video for the +1 app in the market.

Trying to create my circles now.. got too many contacts to sort through.. and most of them are going into the 'acquaintences' circle.. hmm..

You have to remember to get them in at the moment during the trial period, they will need a google profile active, and you will have to share a link with them.

It should be easier once it goes live

Right you are... I just put a few contacts in a few circles just to test it out.

Just had an awkward moment where I posted a status update on the mobile app just to test it out... Realised that it would appear to people in 'my circles',

Not sure if that would have sent an email notification to everyone I have included in my circles i.e. aquaintences as well.. that was not my intention.

hahha.. oh well. no biggie even if it did! :p

I've just had the same thought ... hope I haven't been spamming people all morning

The whole point is you can select which circles you update, you should be defining that before you, upload pics/update status/ etc etc :-)

It was when I used the app, it defaulted to "my circles", didn't realise until after I'd posted it.

Cheers Jaffa! How do I sign up now I have your email though? I click the link to comment, then the one to join Google+ and then it tells me its closed.

Did I miss my chance for this mornings opening?

One of my friends just managed to get in so it should still work. Have you got an active google profile on that email address?

Edit: just checking, you are pressing the big red "learn more" button?

Yes, on both counts. All I get is the keep me posted screen with the message 'Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon'.

I just tried it on my other gmail account and I get the same. Strange cos I know other people that have just managed to get in. Maybe google has finally cracked down on it.

Its pretty certain now that google have shut down the method we were using to invite people so please stop sending PMs for now, I'll be happy to help again once they open it up.

So what do us lucky few think to it so far? I really like it, it has all the essential things from facebook, statuses, likes, comments etc, but in a much easier and cleaner format. I like that they made it so easy to choose who to speak to, I like the edit function so you can quickly correct typos you only notice after posting, and I love how the huddle feature acts like bbm on the app. The only thing I haven't tried yet is hangout.
I've heard a few people moaning that there's no -1 button, but that doesn't really bother me. Neither does the lack of "pokes" (I hate those things so much).
The only thing I don't like, is the name. Facebook rolls off the tongue, it doesn't need much effort. Google plus is longer, has harsher sounding syllables, and is stupid to type (especially on a phone keyboard for the + sign, took me a while to find it). Facebook is easily shortened or changed, fb, facey b, and other variations that rhyme with book but start with an F. How do you shorten google plus? Plus (or +) on its own isn't recognisable enough, and g+ doesn't seem right somehow, though maybe it'll catch on and prove me wrong.
I'm not saying it's a bad choice (google spot would have been a laughing stock if shortened), but to me it seems to me to be the only thing left lacking.

Well done google!

It's ok, I had a brief mess around yesterday and it seems pretty well thought out. Certainly al lot better than wave.

Not really tried it on the app, will have a mess about today.

Is there anyone on here willing to invite me to Google + please. It looks great and I would love to give it a go. Thank you.
My email is edbanger1975@googlemail.com .

No probs.

TBH, you're not missing that much at the moment anyway. There's such a small amount of people using it and the features are pretty scaled back. Hopefully, once they open it up a bit and add more features, it'll be worth it. :)

There is a work around that some people have figured out, that allows them to invite people. But I'd rather wait until final release, as it's currently in BETA

I believe the workaround is this:

If anyone can give this a try and send me an "invite" I would be very stoked!

How Can I Get an Invitation to Google Plus?

Google introduced their highly anticipated social network, Google Plus, on Tuesday as an invite-only service. Not surprisingly, a lot of people are interested in trying it out.

The folks at Google allowed current members to invite friends for a short window last week, and we started a Google Plus Invite thread at Lifehacker to spread the love. Unfortunately, Google closed invites shortly thereafter.

So how do you get an invitation now?

For starters, you should visit the start page and sign up for an invite whenever Google gets around to sending one. But that's the obvious route, and it could take a while.

If you happen to know someone who's already got a Google Plus invite, you do have another option, which I tested and which worked for me. Keep in mind that Google could always change this, so you mileage may vary.

First, I created a new Circle called "Test", then I added a new friend to that circle

That was the workaround, but google still weren't letting people sign up recently. However, a few people I sent emails to last week have just managed to get in through persistently trying, so it might let a few people in every now and then. Just testing if out works with new emails, if it does I'll update on here and be happy to send out invites again.

Edit: However, I will agree with what others have said, features are very limited right now, so unless you already know people on there (unlikely if you're asking for invites on here), you might as well wait for a wider release.

Edit #2: New emails are either extremely delayed (over 8hrs) or are just not arriving. If you already have an invite then keep checking, some people are getting lucky and making it in.
However, it is not possible to send new invites at this time.

Joining using an invite just worked for me around half an hour ago, might be worth a shot if you've been invited but couldn't get in previously.
