Got It......It's fast....it's really REALLY fast...

Hi.
Been reading this thread and registered and wanted to chime in... :)
3rd geer : I have a few questions if you would answer please.

1. Do you have to take out the battery to change sd cards? ( i think yes but i want a confirmation)

2. I know the nexus screen is taller than the iphone but how does it compare horizontally when phone is standing up? Is the iphone screen a bit "fatter" ?

3. How does the auto focus on the camera work on this phone?

I've been wondering the answer to question #2 also...

^

I thought 720x480 would have been the perfect resolution/ratio for a screen. Also it would run even better with the lower resolution.
Got this part wrong, with 720x480 the pixel count is higher
Your other phone is a 3GS, right? Does it appear that the N1's screen has the anti smudge coating like the iphone? Screen is glass or plastic?

Do you mind me asking what connection you have with Google?
Just ignore this if you don't want to answer.

According to what he posted a few pages back, he's a former Google employee, but the phone was actually passed on from a friend who still works there.

Hope that helps :D

I'll answer your questions from top to bottom.

1. Yes. You can check it at the top of the phone.

So the trackball isnt multi colored ?
LED/Color notifications are a big deal to me.Ive seen the trackball flash on calls but not any variances in color.

Watching the 10 min vid 2 questions hit me.

1. Is the glass or plastic screen sensitive ? It seems in several vids users have to tap multiple times to get the N1 to react.

2. The pic gallery has 3d effect in one video...but not in the other ?

sometimes the "taps" dont register. I have also had a problem where the input field wont input text. I have to go out of the program and go back in to get it to work.
Nothing that doesnt happen on any other touch screen phone though.

Just downloaded and tested....you're absolutely right. Multitouch works in this browser. Still not sure if I'll use it though because I can't truly test the speed browser for browser.

Same is true on a stock un-rooted Droid with 2.0.1: multi-touch works in Dolphin

Neocore,
Since my first smart phone, I learned my lesson and you'll find a usb cable in my pocket, monday through friday. With heavy usage, no phone lastem me longer than a day with stock batteries. I expect the n1 to be on par with others.

I have found with phones and PCs, after awhile, I tend to turn off eye candy. It's pretty, it's nice, it wears out it's welcome and slows things down. And as far as phones, moving eye candy burns battery life like chicks and chocolate. (my dad's words), but hey dad was in his 80s and knew what he was talking about.

OK....over 48 hours in.....I'm about to patent the new name for the Nexus One....

THE MESSIAH

hahahaha

You are so gonna get struck by lightening.... can I have your N1 when it happens? When you first notice the tingling, throw the N! as far away from your body as possible.

Thanks in advance!:D

just wanted to thank you for all the great information you're providing. i guess now i have a question, and sorry if you already answered.

but how does the amoled screen do in high light situations? judging from youtube videos, amoled does pretty terrible in sunlight. just wondering if thats actually the case. to me..any screen in sunlight is difficult to read

Personally, I think the difference isn't that big between AMOLED and ordinary screens when it comes to direct sunlight.. both are pretty much unreadable, AMOLED is a bit more 'sunlight sensitive' though. Under any other light, AMOLED is much better.. and in darkness it's beautiful.

Oh yes, but it does :)
I have dropped my Cowon S9 screen-first on a treadmill, which shot it straight across the floor, sliding on the display.. and yet not a scratch on it.

I'd say you were just lucky that day.

Care to take some fine grain sandpaper to the middle of the screen? How about dusting the floor with a bag of sand and then doing a face down skitter across the kitchen floor, say 20 times? Or on that same floor, allow a puppy or two year old to push it around on the sand?

While glass in most cases, is going to be a 100 times more forgiving than any sort of plastic (coated or not), too much force, friction, pressure, added with the right amount of hardness of the scratching medium, and things will pit, gouge and scratch it. Which is the main reason people with glass top tables, do not use sandpaper on the bottom of their skid proof cups and coasters.

But scratching is not the main worry for glass screened devices, breaking on the other hand is. And while tougher than "normal" tempered glass, Gorilla Glass, sadly is just glass when it comes to edge impacts and being dropped or banged too often. But that won't stop me from buy or owning devices with glass screens.:p

Well, of course it's not 100% scratch proof.. nothing is 100% anything-proof.

(edit) 4. is the screen glass or plastic?

1. You don't have to but it's a little tough. It's slot is slightly above the battery. Easier to just take it out.

2. In all the screen is a lot better. Visually and size. The width is pretty much the same.

3. You push a button on the screen, then it auto focuses and snaps the pic. The whole thing takes about 2 seconds, and about 1 second to snap the next pic. So going pic to pic is pretty fast.

Good question....honestly I can't really say. I'll test out today and post.

I noticed that the pinch to zoom using the dolphin browser on my eris was extremely laggy and not as responsive as the pinch to zoom naturaly on the eris. How responsive is the pinch to zoom using dolphin on the n1? Also, how quick is the transition from portrait to landscape in both browsing and txtng? Thanks!

I tried it a few nights ago but deleted it. It seemed pretty responsive to me. Transition to landscape is on par with the iphone. It's definitely on point.

It has been great getting this feedback on the phone and I thank you for taking the time to do it.

Quick question though, are you guys using a T-Mobile sim and if so, does the Nexus One support UMA mode when using Wi-Fi?

Thanks again.
