I got my first android phone yesterday, for 80 dollars, and I'm loving it! Just wanted to say hi! And I'm excited to learn more about my new phone. :)

Welcome to the forums. There is alot of information here about these phones. When you decide to get into rooting and Roms I have some advice.

1. Don't use Rom Manager

2. Research, research, research... Don't jump into anything. Read the threads and information thoroughly before trying anything.

Have fun!

Hello dukie1346 welcome to the V forum. For more info on ROM Manager go here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/419080-truth-about-rom-manager.html. If you read the sticky's in the V forum and the All Things Root sub-forum you will get a good idea on just how cool this little phone can be.

If you ever have any problems finding the answer to a problem or need to point out spamming, rude/bad conduct (it's very rare but pops up from time to time), a thread that needs to be moved to the All Tings Root sub-forum or need to delete a double post, just PM me.

I stopped by this forum almost a year ago, haven't left yet. That's how good this forum really is. This is the hub for all the info for the V. A lot of members scour the net trying to find new and useful info that will help us in all aspects of this phone.

Hope you like what you see and enjoy the time you get to spend here.

Welcome. Bought my optimus V in september last year and it was my first smart phone. This phone is awesome. Definitely the best bang for your buck phone available. Use it for a couple weeks, then root it and flash a custom rom. My phone is now twice as fast and lasts a lot longer than stock.

Get use to the phone and the Android OS before worrying about rooting and/or installing custom ROM's. The stock VM ROM works well enough for everyday use. If you find yourself wanting more at some point that's when it's time to consider a customer ROM.

I've had mine for a little while. It's my first, and I love it. I used it for about a month, and was using Go Launcher and ADW Launcher to see how well each worked. I then decided to root it and install a custom ROM. I used gingerbread to root it, and then I put 2.3.4 on it. I've been using Theme Chooser, which comes with the ROM to change the layout of how it looks. Right now, I have it set to look like ICS. It's an extremely simple process once you understand how it all works. And here is where i'll also give the warning: DO NOT USE ROM Manager!

If you can get the Clockwork Mod Recovery onto your SD card after you've rooted, download superuser and terminal emulator. Open terminal emulator, and then type su, and hit enter. Then you can type in the commands to move the Recovery into the system. When you turn off your phone, you can hold down the home, volume up, and power button. The LG symbol come up, then the screen will flash black. Let go of the buttons after it goes black, and you're in your recovery.
Make sure you get a recovery that will work with the new screens though.
Use YouTube to find out all the bits and pieces. But I hope this bit of information helps!
