Got my verizon DInc 2 today!!!

Well, I got my Dinc 2 in today, my device comparable to what I had on Centennial.(hTC wildfire) What an upgrade for absolutely free! The wildfire was my first htc and android phone for me.
The display on this phone looks amazing.
I have a problem though, i can't activate the phone with service because cdma is not live in my area yet, and the conversion will not be complete until july 31st.
I cannot get past the activation screen that says you need to make a special call (*228) to set up your device.
I wanna check out the features and use it over wi fi, ya know, get a feel for it now, instead of leaving it box for a month. verizon's cdma will go live on july 31st and I will be able to activate it and begin using it, centennial and the wildfire will be no more.
I will try to make it fail 3 times by sending the call and hitting end call as soon as I hear a sound, and see if next pops up as an option so I can get into the main home screens.
If anyone knows how to bypass this could you please help me out.

You'll have to go to a Verizon store or find an area that has CDMA. If you don't have CDMA in your area, you can't make a call.
 
yup you will have to take it to a vzw store to activate it. You can try a google search to see if there is a way to bypass the activation screen, I know from experience that there are some phones that allow you to do that, not sure on the inc 2 tho.

btw, just got mine yesterday, coming from an original inc, its pretty sweet for sure.
 
I got it!!! My method worked.
After the thrid failed attempt and set of two beeps next came up as an option, then I just skipped and declined everything else.I'm in the home screens and able to mess with wifi and everything else, now I can get a sense of my new sense I am running, what and upgrade from htc wildfire running stock 2.1!!!
 
I got mine about a week ago & LOVE it! It is my first Droid as I came from a Palm Pre Plus (UGH!) The only thing now is I am waiting on root instructions so I can get rid off all the pre-installed "crap apps" and so I don't have to pay for hotspot
 
Hope all goes well with the rooting.
You might even be able to access free content from htcsense.com and/or htc hub after rooting since verizon has blocked access to both on this incredible 2, probably to make you spend money by using their bloatware v cast apps.Corporate greed I tell you.
I am just having fun now checking out the 30 additional skins for htc sense 2.0 and playing angry birds(I was able to carry over all my progress from my htc wildfire, without root I might add!) on my dinc 2 since it will not be activated until the 31st of this month.
 
I finally activated my dinc2 today. One of the first things I tried to do was update to gingerbread. No, luck. I checked for updates like 15 times today. Then I brought it in to the new store that they just opened in my area, swamped with people. They told me just to wait a couple of days and see what happens. The network was probably taxed because they Activated so many phones today.
Oh, well, I have waited this long...

I wish I had 2.2 on mine, so I could root. If you are comfortable with it you can root and install a 2.3.3 rom. Getting rid of the bloatware is also a plus.
 
Thanks for the tip,I don'twant to root. I will just wait and if it doesn't show up I will just bring it back into the store for help.

I would swap phones with you in a heartbeat, seeing as 2.3.3 can't be rooted yet without buying an xtc clip.

Oh well, I'll get it soon enough:cool:
 
Well, checked some more today and nothing.
I was thinking today how if we could swap phones that would be neat.
Really, the only reason I want to update to gingerbread is for the ability to use the skype video chat with front facing camera by installing the 2.0.0.4.7 version. That is really all I see, but I guess it is no big deal.
Phone is working great with no problems at all, and very fast too.
I am considering staying on 2.2.1.
I figure If I update I will just cause myself problems. (especially after reading these forums!)
