I got a noob question...What does the "fix permissions" setting in Rom manager do?... and will it help me with getting back to my home screen from apps. or drawer or browser etc.? I feel it

ok here's my stupid problem. A buddy of mine gave my son an ascend...no manual. My son started randomly doing stuff and now is missing an important item from the desktop. It's the little grid (square made of dots) that should appear in the small taskbar at the bottom of the screen. The Market icon is in it's place and we can't figure out how to get the grid symbol back and currently can't access apps at all, except for a couple that are on the desktop. lil help plz?

With your finger press & hold screen not any widgets just screen, look for Launcher Actions, press it & look for Open/close App Drawer & it should be on your screen...

Thanks for the reply. The popup window doesn't have Launcher Actions....the choices are Shortcuts, Custom shortcuts, Widgets, Folders and Wallpapers. That's all.

Press & hold where the button is supposed to be. It should give you a popup with options like "Change Shortcut" & "Change Icon". Just change the shortcut back to "App Drawer" or "Launcher". That's how it works with GoLauncher anyways...

More info is needed, do you know the firmware version # of your Huawei Ascend?
(example: 2.1, 2.2.2, 2.3, eclair, froyo, cm6, cm7, gingerbreak, .... )
[version # typically cay be found by pressing the hard 'MENU' button, then 'settings', scroll down to 'about phone', then scroll to 'android version']
Also when you press the hard menu, do you see any of this wording on the buttons like "More", "Preferences", "ADW" or "Adw settings" or adw anything?
Edit: Do you know also if your son or the person you got the phone from has rooted it?

so for the past hour or more i have been on xda trying to find a better Mms.apk for the ascend i hate the stock and dont want to use go sms or handcent anyways i found a few that i like... that they was now able to put the sense Mms.apk on many phones i try flashing it and tried using root explorer too and still didnt get it on the phone i really want the stock app to have a black backgroud instead of it being white and the senseMms.apk would be cool if i could get it on the ascend

our stock Ascend have that option, i click message icon & hit menu, go to settings, & look for black background. if thats what you mean?

if its not built for the ascend than no, and if you try to install another .apk file over it and its not made for it, expect to have FC's back to back, and also it depends on what rom they made it for.

Hello I need help.I have a ascend and I was using wireless tether as a hotspot for my computer.Today I brought a tablet and have found out that you cant use your phone for your tablet.I was wondering what can I do to make this work.Is there a rom for my ascend that has the hot spot feature in it?

Perhaps look for a ROM for your tablet that will allow you to use the various tethering apps in the ANDROID MARKET.
If your tablet is an ANDROID,chances are someone in the forum for your tablet will be more suited to help you.
If there isn't support for your tablet here,might wanna check out XDA DEVELOPERS.

I've spent some time searching the forum, viewing several threads, but cannot get any results on the uses of CWM. Besides flashin custom ROM's,what else does CWM do?....Huawei ascend,running CM7(07282011)

just to be 100% safe, download another browser (opera,dolphin,ect.) and put it as a system app if your rooted. but download it and delete the metro browser.

install various zips and updates, not just ROM zips
reset factory defaults
partition your sdcard
mount/format different parts of your phone, sdcard, and different caches
wipe your battery stats
fix app/data permissions
backup/restore builds
It does a few other things, but I haven't been brave enough to try out the options that I don't know enough about. It has the option to mount to USB, but my computer only sees a cd drive, and I can't do anything with it. Version 3.0.2.8 lets you power down within CWM now, where I used to have to do a battery pull.

Go to SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS,& click on an application.If you see the button that says MOVE TO SD,select this,& move on down the list & repeat the process.
Some apps are sometimes best left on internal memory for optimal performance,such as games,launcher(whether it be stock,ADW,GO LAUNCHER,LAUNCHER PRO,etc...,)& MARKET(definitely leave this one on the internal memory).
Also,to free up memory,I strongly suggest d/l CACHE CLEANER NG.It's the very best cache cleaner on the market IMHO.Set it to clean everything & use the option of old style for most thorough cleaning.
I also highly recommend getting the app SD MAID PRO.Try out the free version first,but,you'll want to get the pro version to maximize the full potential of this app.
Keep us posted on your progress/results.
