Root Gparted, just not working for me

DesireMe

I just can't get GParted working to partition my card. I couldn't use VMWare as my i got an error saying my CPU was not good enough or something, so i've set up a bootable USB.

Now it boots OK. If i plug in the phone (recovery-mount USB) too early, the boot stops. I tried pluggin in the phone after GParted has started and refresh devices, but it's not found. I have to let GParted start, close it, then remove the bootable USB and plug in the phone to see it.

I've tried doing a FAT16/32 of 3GB and a EXT2/3 of 1GB, but i always get an error.

I've watched the video, read threads and just keep trying, but i'm not winning at all and it's bloody frustrating.

Just did mine yesterday via USB (first time I've flashed a ROM). Didn't have the phone in recovery - just powered on as normal, then plugged in once the USB started to boot the laptop, change to mount as disk drive. This was following the noobs guide video on XDA.
Did you use the tool from the gparted website to transfer the gparted ISO to the USB drive? This was the thickest bit for me.

Plug it in just before the GUI starts. After keyboard mapping etc

It crashed the bootable USB with an error: Unable to handle kernel paging request.

The only way i can get the phone recognised, is to wait until it's all booted up. Close GParted, remove bootable USB, plug in phone, start GParted.

Only problem is then, i set the partitions and click apply and get an error. No matter what partitions or size.

Off to get a blank CD to make a bootable CD...

Went and got a CD-R. Downloaded the GParted ISO and Magic ISO. Burnt the ISO and only went and ticked the bloody finalise CD option!! Been that long since i burnt a disc. Now the bloody thing is unreadable in the PC!

FFS, not my day. Wasted a whole day trying to do this. :(

why not use suroots vmware guide, this means no burning of CD and you can be booted into windows while doing it

also try the rear ports on your pc rather than the front ones

eh?
vmware player? i wasnt aware it needed core2 or windows virtualisation support. i thought that was only for windows virtual server and xpmode :/

You're right it doesn't need ivt (i haven't got ivt) or core 2 AFAIK.

Just going on first post

hey .. I have been using Gparted using ubuntu its works fine... u can try that...

well i have also used gparted live USB that also worked for me..

using a open source tool called tuxboot to create live usb using predownloaded gparted.ISO..

Just hit and trial........ try the live usb on other PC...

best o' luck

I used Yumi (in toolbox) to make a multiboot usb Pen drive. It workd very well, I had Gparted and Ubuntu Live CD, Ultimate boot cd4 win etc all on multip boot. It has a grub menu for booting to the iso of choice....

I'm now gonna try Tuxboot with another flashpen. I'm now wandering whether it's because it was a U3 Flash Pen...

Thanks to all those that helped.

I used Tuxboot to create a bootable USB on a different (non-U3) flash pen and also used the back USB ports. So who knows which part was failing, but it worked first time for me.

Now i can get everything back on the phone and get back to normal (albeit with over 1gb app storage :D )
