Help GPS has failed

.... for the Samsung Moment.

When browsing through the various FAQ's, I came across this...

How Do I Get Turn-By-Turn Directions Using GPS On The SPH-M900 (Moment)?
To get turn-by-turn directions with GPS simply tap the Applications Tab and then tap Sprint Navigation.
Note: The Sprint Navigation application is not supported by Samsung. Please contact Sprint for more information.

That's odd - why would Sprint or Samsung include that application if it wasn't supported by the phone. Or is there some disconncect between the Samsung marketing group and Sprint?

I think what they meant is that they are not going to provide any support for telenav because its a sprint program. So you should contact sprint if you have any questions.

I had this exact same thing happen to me. I couldn't get GMaps to find my location, moving or stationary for about 30 mins. I pulled up SprintNav, and BOOM there I was. Went back to GMaps and I was picked up instantly.

This is what I have been doing to share my location! Hope we get a update!

No, this is not what is being refered to on that page. The page simply states that Samsung, as a company, is not involved in the development or upkeep of Sprint's navigation. In other words you can not call Samsung and expect them to fix a product that is not theirs. This is like calling Microsoft asking for them to fix the Firefox browser. While Mozilla's Firefox runs on a Microsoft OS they do not "support" Mozilla's product.

Yeah, you're right in that interpretation. Seems logical enough.

Wow good find!! Thank you!

I will definitely be returning my Moment tonight. I printed out the page, so many if I show it to the reps at Sprint, they'll wave the re-stocking fee.

I'm not sure I follow here, why would this page make you return your phone?

Ms_Kady has been having problems with Moment, though I thought they were worked out potentially. I'm assuming Ms_Kady panicked at the thought of Samsung openly saying they do not support Sprint services. Interpreting it as if Samsung said their phones do not work with Sprint, though it was simply stating that Sprint would need to be called for any tech support.

As with all new devices there will always be kinks that need to get worked out, and they will. Samsung Instinct... Nightmare when it was first released, but they worked out the kinks and it became a good phone, not great but still good. Some folks don't realize this and they panic, wanting a device that will work perfectly out of the box, though that device doesn't exist unless it has been out for awhile.

Someone's going to be confusing the hell out of some Sprint reps tonight.
Sprint reps calling Samsung reps, asking why Samsung is not Supporting Sprint...all because of some unclear wording on a web page, hidden deep within Samsung's website. Lol.

Gotta love it.. :o (somewhat embarassed that I started this too!)

Thanks Adrift, that is my assumption too. I just don't like to lead the witness with my questions ;)

LOL... I didn't tell the Sprint guys that. I did read the rest of the thread. :p

I DID, however, swap out my Moment for a new one instead of going with the Hero as I really prefer having a physical keyboard and the GPS on this unit works much better. Still has a hard time finding, but this time it DOES find me and doesn't place me in Ireland.

I personally like Ireland... :D. And you get a full Hawaiian Shaka for giving the Moment a second chance!

lol...everytime I type on the virtual keyboard and push the wrong key and have to go back, I am reminded of why I love physical keyboards so much.

So, your NEW Moment is getting a better read on you with the GPS function than your previous one? I wonder if then it's a hardware issue... it makes me seriously consider swapping mine out too to see if it remedies it. I can't get a reading for the life of me but I was willing to wait it out if it would be addressed in a software update.

Anyone else swap theirs out and get improved GPS readings?

Yup. Used it on the way home last night and worked perfectly! Even used it again this morning and was right on the dot.

Like I said, it still has a hard time finding me sometimes. It's not always instantaneous and I have to click on "my location" a couple times, but at least it finds me.

Can you list your Kernel Version and hardware version?
