Root GPS issue on AOSP Roms

artex101

Newbie
In a nutshell; any AOSP ROM (Fission, Gummy, etc) makes my phone lose navigation capabilities, keeps on "searching for satellites". When Im on Apex- no issues whatsoever with the GPS.
I really dig Gummy but navigation is a must because of work. Any suggestions?
I tried clearing out the data in Maps as well as trying to type the address/directions into Maps and start navigation from there- nada.
Help?

If you wipe data and cache when you rom. Your GPS chip is losing its beam stearing information. (I suspect this but can't confirm exactly)

Basically every time you ROM and Wipe, make sure aGPS is active and wireless network locations is active along with GPS (IE mark all 3 options, at least temporarily although I suggest keeping them on all the time).

Let your phone sit perfectly still (on a table or such) for about a minute or so (may take 5 depending on your latitude and time of day ect). And make sure your DX gets a full GPS lock (at least 5 sats, but more is always better).

If your phone can't do this, something in the phone is wrong or turned off.

I find occasionally when I ROM my DX, I have to do this once. Its a matter of resetting the GPS sat locations and beam steering components for faster locks. Will not work if moving. And like I said it can take longer than 10 seconds.

How can you tell how many Sat locks your phone has acquirred?

Me or the OP? Yeah pretty cool app. Detects no GPS signal in the building I am in though. Will try it out later when I run an errand.

I use JustGPS. tells you how many are visible and how many are used for location calculation (Locked)

Also gives basic GPS calculation readouts. Speed, direction, lat, long, accuracy.

Great tool.
