Help GPS Problems with my X.

My X is several months old. I have few problems with it. When I was on 2.1 my GPS worked fine. After the first update I had occasional lose of the GPS while in navigation. After the most recent update I lose signal constantly. I don't just lose the signal I lose GPS receiver and have to turn it back on. It's a huge pain. I found a app the clears the GPS cache and it helps, but only temporarily. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you ever done a Factory Data Reset from Menu, Settings, Privacy? If not, you might want to consider doing it because it will reset everything back to factory fresh and hopefully solve your GPS problems.

Obviously, you will lose text messages, and any other settings you have on your phone. If you are rooted, back everything up with Titanium Backup.

I have done factory resets too. I even went to customer no-service at Verizon. The tech installed ATK and told me I had too many apps running. I knew that was crap and it didn't change the problem. That's when I found the app "GPS Status" that has the reset feature, but it only temporarily helps.

My initial guess was that it has something to do with the batter saving features of the newer OSes, but if that were the case many more people would be having this problem. I'm starting to thing I have a bad GPS antennae or receiver, but I don't know if this makes sense.

I posted a problem I'm having with my X's GPS. It somehow got put under the All things root thread. My X is not rooted and I don't think the issue has anything to do with root. I know it's rude to repost so I'm just supplying the link to the original post. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry, golflover1.. I'm not sure who placed it there, could have been me or one of several other Guides or Mods in a hurry ;), but I'll move it to the support area for you right away.

So, are you on the stock 2.2.1 install?

You have a couple options depending on how much you want to dig into your phone.

A) You could contact Verizon and ask for a phone swap. It sounds like there is nothing you can do easily that will fix the problem.

or

B) You could start messing with the OS to see if it's a software problem on your phone. This could include:

- Using RSDlite to install the factory SBF on your phone, overwriting the existing system software

- Installing another, drastically different ROM like GummyJAR, which alters the framework of the phone a bit, again trying to see if it's an Android OS problem, or if it's a phone problem

Kinda up to you on how much you want to dig in. There are lots of people here to help you if you want to pursue avenue B, and lots of helpful threads to walk you through the process. I'm really a do-it-yourself guy so I tend to want to see if I can fix it before I hand it to someone else.

My GPS quit and nothing helped, including a hard reset. There are lots of reports of this out there. Verizon sent me a new one. Kind of a pain to keep rebuilding the screens, etc...

My bad. Sorry. Another guide fixed my error and put it in Support. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Today my GPS seemed to lock on my location ok, but it got stuck forever on "getting driving directions". Rebooted, but it didn't help at all. Will try again on the trip home from work.

I'm not comfortable with messing with the OS. This phone is not just a toy to me. I really need it for business. It sounds like swapping phones is the way to go, and I agree it's a huge pain.

Thank you.
