GS2 BURNING through Data allowance

Afternoon all - Long time visitor first time poster...

I have a Galaxy S2 and use the Data Counter widget from the Market. I used this on my old HTC Tattoo and always found it was pretty accurate.

Now on my GS2 it seems that it's missed about 100mb of data use. When I spoke to Vodafone (and checked on the My Vodafone app) they say I've used 400mb as opposed to the Data Counter saying about 300mb (it's a new phone hence the massive usage anyway - this would not be a normal month!).

My question is - Could things like Backgrounds Syncing or Ads in Games be to blame for this? And if so how do I get rid?

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Yeah background synching uses allot of data. To turn it off go to settings, accounts and sync and untick background data or turn mobile data off completely by long pressing the power button. Also 3g Watchdog is supposed to be pretty good for checking data usage.

i always turn off data whenever i'm done using it so no surprises

I'm not familiar with Data Counter but ensure that the total includes sent as well as received data.
