GS3 Case discussion thread

Hate to say it, jazztalker has a point :)

Most clear cases I have seen have either not offered enough protection or defeat the purpose of having a clear case (i.e. inability to clearly see the back of the phone).

Please sent the pics when you have a chance!

Not worth posting pictures unfortunately. I received both the phone and the case yesterday and am extremely disappointed...I do NOT recommend this case at all. Description said it was a clear case, it is NOT...the sides are, but the most important part, the back is not. It is the frosted clear (so not really clear) and makes the back of the phone look more light gray than blue. Additionally the cut outs for the camera, microphone (both on back and bottom), and the headphone jack do not line up all that well. Not horrible, but not good enough for my taste.

The pictures and description on Amazon do not portray this case accurately.

Does ANYONE make a clear backed case that is the soft material? Not interested in that hard case plastic.

The two S-Line cases I bought off ebay for $1.85 each with free shipping are not horrible. But you get what you pay for...

The translucent blue one fits OK, but the phone's camera, speaker, and flash aren't centered in the case's cutouts. The noise cancellation microphone is a bit off-center as well...

The black case fits, but its holes don't match up well enough to the phone to be of much use...

As for the hybrid case I got off ebay,... ...it's very difficult to get the phone into, the cutouts don't match up well enough with the phone, and the silicone lining is too "grabby." Overall, I doubt I'll ever use this case, so it's a good thing they refunded my money.

Ok, you could blame the poor fit of these cases on cheap/shoddy Chinese workmanship. But have you considered that maybe it's your phone that was made wrong??? I find it hard to believe that a country that brought us such greats as Kung Pao chicken, Mu Shu Pork, and countless varieties of Dim Sum could screw up something as simple as a plastic phone case. Besides, aren't they the country that MADE your phone? ;):D

Sorry, I can't help you on your quest for a clear phone case. I just ordered one for my daughter's SGS3 but it won't be here for a few days. I won't know how clear it is until we actually have it on the phone. Her phone is white so even a semi-translucent case will still appear white. My phone is blue but it won't be here until later today. (Yea!) When we get the case I'll try it on both phones and let you know.

It might help your search if you know that material is called TPU...Thermoplastic Polyurethane. Typically it's referred to as "TPU". There are also soft cases made out of silicone but they aren't the same and they aren't clear, at least none that I've ever seen. I don't care for the silicone cases by themselves because they are too soft/stretchy, too "grippy" and they tend to collect lent and dust. But silicone is used in some/many dual layer cases in combination with some sort of hard plastic. Sometimes the people selling their cases don't know the difference and will use the terms, "TPU" and "Silicone" interchangeably or in combination and as far as I know this is incorrect.

Well I put my case on my wife's phone and it actually looks really good on the white...well until you see that things don't line up real well.

So which case did you end up purchasing Benny? Link please.

I've searched and searched for TPU (preferred), silicon, etc., etc. and have yet to find a soft case that is truly clear and not matte or frosted. Frustrating to say the least.

It seems a lot of these cases are very similar and are likely produced by the same manufacturer and just rebranded. Surely though someone has to produce a truly clear one.

Have you looked at this one on Amazon? Reviews say it is clear. amzn.to/LMmdcr
Personally I'm going to pick this one up when I get my S3 in a couple of weeks. amzn.to/L6xym9

I work outside at a golf course (summer job), so I'm looking for a really heavy duty case to use just a work in order to prevent dust and dirt from getting into and all over my phone (like it did with my Dinc). The Otterbox Defender seems like what I'm looking for. $50 is a ridiculous price to pay for a case, but I really need that absolute protection or else my phone WILL get really dirty. I'm also willing to pay that much since I don't think I'll use another case. When I'm home, I'll just leave it out of the case since I don't think anything is really gonna happen to the phone. If I feel like the phone is really fragile when I get it, I'll just pick up one of those Diztronic matte back cases.

Is the Otterbox Defender worth it, or is there a better alternative that can offer absolute protection?

Guys, which one of those TPU cases replaces the back cover of the phone to gain slimiest possible profile.

I've never heard of any TPU cases that replace the back cover. I've looked at many hundreds of cases on Amazon and Ebay and the only TPU cases I've seen go OVER the back cover. There are some back covers available to replace the stock back cover. I have a "Carbon Fiber" one coming on a slow boat from China. It says it's leather and it appears to be stamped to look like carbon fiber. I dunno, it was so cheap it's disposable. I only ordered it so I could maybe add a little protection over the paper thin stock cover. It will ALWAYS be covered with a case so it's probably not necessary but like I said, it was really inexpensive.

Can't decide between the Otterbox Defender or the Sedio Active cases. Anyone have these yet? I love the protection of the Otterbox but it is very bulky. How does the Sedio match up to it size and protection wise? Any other suggestions welcome.

Dam, my wife got her case for her ATT S3 and it is hard case, but it is replacing the battery cover. I would still it from her, the only problem I don't like pink splashes on my phone cover :-).

It matches the blue so perfectly it's almost invisible. I got a second cover, a gray carbon fiber looking one, and I took it off as soon as I put it on - looked awful after seeing this one! I haven't gotten a good enough pic yet, will try today. I think I need a light colored background for it to show up right.

If this case has opening at the top and bottom of the phone, does it mean if my phone falls on its top or bottom part the case will be totally useless in that situation?

Verizon has several cases in stock for launch and my favorite is the the plastic clamshell case with built in stand and holster. Nice grip, thin and makes pressing the volume and power by accident less likely. $30 list price.

I have the Razr version, but the Razr version seems a tad thicker (prefer the GS3 version).

I received this yesterday:
Amazon.com: Acase Samsung Galaxy S3 Case - Superleggera PRO Dual Layer Protection (Black/Black) (Fits AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon): Cell Phones & Accessories
A few comments for those who are interested in it about things I was wondering before receiving the case:
The side buttons are covered by silicone, but because there seems to be a little bit of space under the silicone rather than resting directly on the button, it prevents accidental button presses I was worried about (and I like it even more because I was accidentally hitting the power button without a case). The silicone portion is a little bit of a dust/lint attractor, but not as terribly as some other silicone products I've seen. The polycarbonate portion of the case has the rubberized feel that so many other things are using these days. The cutout for the audio jack is maybe 1-2mm larger all around than than the jack itself, so I haven't had any problems plugging anything in so far.

I had a shell on my HTC DROID Incredible for the 2 years I used it. The only significant dings it had were on the top and bottom edges where the shell didn't cover.

This is why I will be sticking with TPU cases from here on out.

I ended up going with the Seidio Active holster.

If you are considering this case, do not hesitate. It is absolutely GREAT quality and it actually reminds me of the otterbox I wrapped my daughter's iphone in.

I'm 100% satisfied with this case.
