GS3 Case discussion thread

I just wanted to make sure you don't have the same problem removing yours as I did. Fortunately my wife had more patience than I did and somehow managed to get it off the phone without damaging the phone.

I haven't bothered to modify mine yet. If you have any success let me/us know what you did. I'll give it a try. I think just filing down one or two of the little quarter inch long nibs that snap into the slots will probably do the trick. I'm just afraid that if I try it and it's not successful I'll have to cuss loudly and nearly damage the phone again getting it off. And if I file off too much it won't stay on the phone properly and it'll be useless. Fortunately I have a box full of other cases that slip on and off easily. Though I doubt any protect the phone quite as well at that case.

Benny

Thanks, I'll try that first. Depending on what it looks like once I get it, I was thinking a little cutout to make pulling the hard shell apart a bit easier. I'll let you know what I come up with.

It already has a small access slot on the right side towards the bottom. Didn't really work for me. In fact, I don't think my wife even used that to open it up. Maybe modify the "Clips" near that opening to make it easier. I used a coin and several various plastic "Tools" to try to pry it open. No go...

Good to know! I think I'll start with those clips then. Now, if only it would get here!

Feels great in the hands and looks nice, :-)
Also, adds fair amount of protection to the edges of the phone in case of a fall, and the fold over part acts like a quasi screen protector. I like it, but a bit pricey...

Looks like a giant Band-Aid wrapped around the phone to me!

Nillkin Case
This was the first case I purchased. It looks nice and has a slim fit. Unfortunately it stains easily and the fit is almost too tight. It's the most difficult case to take off.

Next up the pack of 5 Rock/SGP style cases I got on eBay. I just received these today. 99.9% sure these are fake, but the quality is very good given it cost $10 for all 5. It did however take almost a month to arrive. I haven't had them long enough to comment on durability, but fit and finish is very good. It's slimmer than the Niilkin and feels just as durable.

iLuv overlay case. This was the second case I received. It's a very nice case overall. The phone looks amazing inside this case. The drawback is that there is no lip at all on this case. The sides sit flush with the screen which means no front protection when laying on flat surfaces or when dropped.

Fosmon TPU Diamond (Argyle) Case
This was the third case I received and the one I'm currently using. It was cheap, but the fit and finish is very good. The cutouts are not super precise on the top and bottom (headphone, microphone, and microUSB cutouts), but well enough to not block anything.

Disclaimer: In case (no pun intended) anyone is wondering, I purchased all of these cases myself.

damn it! after browsing through some other threads, found these two and now i can't decide. was gonna go for something without a front cover but these look too nice! Anyone use these before?

Samsung Galaxy S3 Case Ultra Flip Series - GALAXY S3 - Samsung - Cell Phones
OR
Samsung OEM Flip Cover Marble Marble White - White / White -TheCellGuru.com

They do look nice but I can't help thinking that the flap would get in the way of normal use - like when you're talking on the phone, or taking a photo, or just using it generally.

I just got this one yesterday. Seems pretty good.

ETA: the second one above is not nearly as good as the first one. It is almost as smooth and slick as the SIII itself and while it will provide some cushioning it seems much more likely to be dropped.

Contact your vendor and tell them they were delivered to the wrong address.

Also if you ever get your cases you will love them!

After all that ordeal I finally got the case from the original vendor! 6 days after it was supposedly delivered! Took them 6 days to redeliver! That's just ridiculous.

Now I have to try and cancel my OTHER order from Amazon. Sheesh! All for 2 cheapy (yet AMAZING) cases!

If they do ship, I'll have an extra white one.... great.....

So I'm due for my upgrade now and it's a toss up for me at this point. Do I go GS3 or Razr Maxx? My gut is pointing towards the Galaxy as I've wanted it for awhile, but I've been reading online that quite a few people are having issues with their screens cracking under just the pressure of the phone being in a pant pocket. I'm on Verizon, and will be getting the insurance on whichever of the two phones I decide to go with, but I'd prefer to skip the headache of the GS3 if the Gorilla Glass 2 screens have a flaw and do in fact shatter easily. I understand something like 9 million devices have been sold worldwide, and some issues are bound to come up, but is this a real concern with this device? There's no way I'm going to shell out $200 for the phone and then another $200 for the deductible to get it fixed two months from now when the screen cracks because I was carrying the phone in my pants pocket. I'll be using a screen protector and an Incipio Silicrylic Case. Thoughts? Anyone have any issues yet?

I'm a Seidio fan.
I have the Active case with a kick stand and the Surface case.
I like the surface case better, the Active case is too bulky for me.

Keith, how hardy is the surface case? Is it worth getting the Convert Case for heavy duty use and then just use the Surface component for everyday use? I visit construction sites once or twice a week so I want something durable on site but I don't want the bulk all the time

This is a case discussion thread. I'm not sure which thread you should post this to but I don't think this is the right one for you. And...I haven't heard of any problems with the Gorilla Glass. But I haven't really been looking for that problem either. The only ongoing problem I've heard of and experienced is less than stellar signal reception. But many people say their's gets great reception. So, there ya go.

A while back someone was looking for a case that would work with a larger extended battery and battery cover. I knew I'd seen one somewhere but couldn't remember where. Here's one I found.

Amazon.com: Hyperion Samsung Galaxy S III Extended Battery HoneyComb TPU Case Black (Hyperion Retail Packaging) **Compatible with ALL Hyperion, Qcell, Onite, Anker, and most Generic Galaxy S3 Extended Battery Models**: Cell Phones & Accessories

There are probably others but here's a start. The look probably isn't everyone's preference but at least it's TPU. TPU is good in my opinion.

My pink/white Ballistic SG Maxx case arrived today, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in it. Feels cheap for what I paid for it and I HATE how I can only put it in the holster screen side in. I have a screen protector I purchased off ebay so I am not using the one ballistic provided with it.

That being said, I do like the overall feel of the case and I do think find that It makes the phone feel overly bulky. The case color would probably look nicer with the white s3. Anywho, I will keep it and use it until my purple defender case comes from JR's whenever otterbox funky decides to release it.

I purchased a purple one similar to this and found that some of the holes were slightly miscut. I also have to pop in out of he case to charge mine as the charger pops out otherwise. Then again it could be luck of the draw as it was an $8 find one ebay......

Yes, it's not very precise, but all is working for me, including charging, headphones, etc. And it was $2.99 on Amazon including shipping.

I got a purple one too and initially had the same issue. I found that because the case is so pliable, you can kind of squish it into shape. I lines up the cutout for the charging port and then kind of pulled and pushed until everything else was where it should be. (sorry for that vague description of but it's hard to explain) Now all my cutouts are perfectly aligned!

Is there another way? :-)

Seriously though, a face-out holster sounds to me like an accident waiting to happen...

Face out holster to double as both a kickstand and to clip on a homemade mount (more of a bracket, really) in my car for driving. There is a method to my madness :-D
