Help GT-i9100P wont update to ICS

You could always head over to SamMobile Firmware Page
Download the O2 firmware and flash via Odin.
You will lose NFC but at this moment, its not a great loss. When the official update for i9100p O2 is ready just reflash.
I have the i9100p UK Orange and im on LPS build flashed via Odin and rooted from Chainfire.

Does flashing an O2 phone with Orange firmware have any adverse effects?
Sorry if this is a dopey question, but I've been researching this stuff for days and haven't come across an answer to that yet.

To avoid confusion.... ICS for the "P", variant has not been released yet.

What bored_stupid suggests in your quote, is to flash i9100, (non P variant), firmware to your phone. This will result in you losing the NFC ability as the i9100 does NOT have NFC.

As for flashing Orange firmware for the i9100, they haven't, at this time, even released an ICS firmware for the i9100. In fact, the firmware update that you are alluding to is a Gingerbread update that was released over the weekend... not ICS. If yoiu wanted to flash an i9100 firmware to your i9100P phone, then it would be better to use an unbranded, generic, firmware such as yesterday's XEU release.

This would, in theory, void your warranty, is not without risks, requires you to flash your firmware back to it's present state to receive an update via Kies in future and, of course.... lose your NFC ability. Having said that, you could flash the ICS firmware for the "P" variant via Odin when it is released.

In short, at this time, flashing Orange firmware to your phone will not give you ICS and you will lose NFC.

I was'nt suggesting that you flash an Orange firmware to an 02 phone.. It will work but you will have Orange bloatware.
What I was suggesting was that you flash one of the latest ICS firmwars thats going around;" I'm now on Omega ver 10 ICS,using LP7 baseband;"Its very smooth, fast and no FCs as yet".
You will loose NFC, but as I have said, I think Its more a gimmick in the Uk at the moment;". When the official ICS for your phone is released, just reinstall using Odin.
You will regain NFC capabillities.

Yup, and what I and others are saying is that suggesting someone flash a firmware intended for a different device is bad advice. If anything goes wrong you're looking at an expensive repair job or replacement, as the warranty will be voided.

Even more irresponsible is using a third-party rooted ROM as an example in a thread discussing stock updates.

The advice would be bad if he had a I 9100G. But he has'nt. He has a I9100P. For all intent and purposes its the international version but with NFC added.
Orange are rumoured to be releasing there version of ICS today(20/4/12). O2 no doubt wont be to far behind.
I humbly oppologize for upsetting the thread.

That'll be scant consolation to the OP when Samsung turn round and refuse to validate the warranty. For peace of mind it's much more sensible to simply wait a bit longer for the genuine article to be released.

I have just spent a morning of my life, never to be retrieved, trying to get ICS onto my new I9100P. Orange kept blaming Kies, and saying they HAVE released ICP for my the I9100P, and eventually admitted defeat and gave me a number to call Samsung directly, who told me that there is no ICP version for the I9100P, only the I9100
Back then to Orange who have no date, or certainly no date they've communicated to their Support, to launch ICP for the I9100P

Im on orange UK and there isn't as yet an update for the p variant for me :/ the computer says there is an update to ics though but it keeps on crashing so i cannot update the software,I've tried to update on 3 Pc's and one mac and ive found kies is the worst software i have ever used! Im just waiting for orange to send the update via push notification so i can do it on the phone which has not yet arrived... hmm, and waiting!

You could always go to Samfirmware.com Register an email. Then in the search bar, type I9100P. I9100PBVLP6 is the firmware you want. Flash it via Odin. Been running the orange firmware for a month now and its very solid.

Does anyone have access to the o2 ICS Firmware which was released only last week?

I decided to root my phone last night. But in the interests of warranty I want to flash it back to standard o2 Spec.

The confusing thing is though.. When I did the *#1234# the info that came up is as below.

PDA i9100PXXLPH
PHONE i9100PXXLPC
CSC i9100Po2ULP4

Build Info Wed Apr 11 12:22.51

Which when googling (and as Ironass explained to me) is Slovenia (Mobitel) firmware.

I got this via Kies though!! I plugged the phone in and it updated to it.. I'm very very confused!

As far as I am aware, the ICS firmware for O2, UK, CSC code O2U, has not been officially released yet for the GT-i9100P variant.

EDIT This, "seems", to suggest that O2, UK, have released ICS for the, "P", variant yesterday!

Has anyone managed to update to O2 ICS on the, "P", yet?

Hi, I upgraded my i9100p to ICS via Kies and its slower than the original rom. ICS also doesnt support sky go!

Does anyone have a link to an original O2 2.3.5 rom? The only back up Ive got is of the updated version and I'm struggling to find any download links using google.

Cheers

Jason

Updating to ICS - O2 Community

Hi athegn!

I read your posts on the O2 forum and understand your reluctance about updating.

Firstly, you do not have to update from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Secondly, I agree with the guy on the O2 forum about restoring settings. In fact, I would go one stage further and say that before upgrading to ICS I would Factory reset my phone and wipe the Internal USB storage so that I had a clean install to begin with. This would negate a lot of the problems that users are experiencing when upgrading.

Thirdly, you have the problem of the data already stored on your handset. On un-rooted phones, your options are limited to making backups using...

Kies, Google sync and restore, My Backup Pro from the Play Store, Exporting your contacts to SD card, syncing your calendar/contacts with your computer via MyPhoneExplorer.

It should be said, that, "in theory", you can update to ICS using Kies and not lose any settings and information.

Also, providing you have sync'd your handset to your Google account, then all your Calendar and Contact information can be restored automatically after the upgrade.

I, on the other hand, prefer the belt and braces method of, "you can never have too many backups".
