Meh, I'll answer this.

It's mostly because of my straight-forward say-what-I'm-thinking-style of posting. I had/have this habit of speaking my mind directly without holding back or discretion. It's got me into trouble a few times in my life.. lol.

Just think if you could be totally honest to everyone in your life.. wouldn't you get into a bit of trouble too?

The boss you don't like...

Your siblings counterpart you can't stand...

The slow person working the grocery aisle while you're in a bit of a hurry...

Stuff like that. They want a "nicer" atmosphere here for the greater good sort of thing, which is probably best for everyone anyway.

But chances are, you can always check out my post history and see exactly what I'm talking about.

"Nice" atmosphere, as in allowing the subject at hand to be discussed productively rather than with noisy distractions of personal insults and attacks?

Well, "politically correct" is not as accurate as your first word, "nicer," so you did good.

"Politically correct" is used now to try to diminish the point an opponent is making, as if their point is being made to fall in line with some agenda instead of a heartfelt ideal.

Don't second guess yourself, amigo; you were right the first time. ;)

Lenny Bruce got what he publicly asked for on many occassions: censored, arrested and a fatal overdose of his drug of choice.

I know you don't fancy yourself a Lenny Bruce. ;)
 
Seriously, I'm gonna weigh in on this. We have to be nice to each other, here, especially to newbies. When I see folks being rude to other members and to newbies, I do get very, very annoyed. I have to leave, count to ten, take deep breaths and then deal with the situation.

This is not matter of political correctness, but of keep this a safe place for all people especially newbies. That's my mission, here. I intend to enforce that without prejudice.

Quid pro quo Steven.

Quite of bit of what people saw as mean by me was actually just honesty.

Not to say I didn't deserve a few of those infractions, I certainly did, and I'm the first to admit to that. Some of them, not so much and I still disagree to this day. Either way I'm back, and I'm bringing a whole new ball game to the table. My speaking techniques have been refined, and I have decided to actively try and reduce/eliminate any acerbic types of language in my life due in part to better results in my personal life due to this personal choice.

While I will always still be honest, and I most likely won't hold back any punches, I will be sure to do so without trying to embarass, harass, or demean any other person or entity. (Which yes, it was uncalled for)

Another part of this is I was letting my emotions get the best of me, which does put flaws in my logic from time to time. For the most part though, even though I did sound mean sometimes, my logic was still sound.

So can you consider this an apology? Yes, you can. But let me make this clear, I am not sorry for the things I said(aside from the inappropriate things which I am sorry for, the facts still remain solid and I stand by them), I am sorry about the way that I said them. There are plenty of ways I could have gotten my point across just as equally without being mean or spiteful.

I hope everyone takes this the right way.

For those that don't, bottom line is I'm still going to bring the facts. The difference is I will bring them without being a jerk.
 
It's just that the words, "I was only being honest," and, "I was only telling it like it is," represent the big basket abusive people use to dump vitriol on others.

You, IOWA, are not an abusive person, I am only showing how invalid that basket is ("I was being honest," etc) in a forum with rules for behavior.

I admire your contrition, that post you just made.

Well, the whole honesty thing can be argued til the end of time IMO. Was i being honest? Most of the time. Was i doing so in a manner that can be concieved as mean or cruel hearted.. yeah ill admit to that on some of my posts. Still.. people dont like the truth sometimes as well.

The Lounge and the Politics areas here bring up passions in some members (that happens in device areas and Games, too, but I think much more so here).

Some come here with a chip on their shoulder and start right off having run ins with other members and Staff. Some just get triggered in here and let it fly, making the place have the appearance of the old Usenet "alt.flame" threads. :D

AF will never allow itself to be that, and that's what the concern is mostly about here wrt member behavior: keeping Android Forums welcoming while also providing Android device information and also a place to hash out current event issues and beliefs, etc.

Ah.. the usenet days. When the internet was for the elites and no noobs allowed. Strangely there is a recent push back to usenet thanks to all the DPI and pro IP movements from telcos and washington.

That was another world. Then "google groups" wrecked the whole thing, even censoring.

I've got to think back: during who's Presidential term did that all take place?

Lol that just goes to show i was a true geek. I remember logging into my first dial up bbs at the age of 7 lol. One year later i had my own bbs powered by wildcat. Ahh those were the days, eh frisco?

Hell, i remember using prodigy for some period of time before i first logged into the net at the age of 9. (1993)
