Can you help me with my phone I have a samsung galaxy prevail. I need the FF19 Rooted files with the tar. files for odin. The site link is not working

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help me, I'm having some problems with my phone and I'm a total newb at this so I have no idea how to fix it. >_>

I followed the steps in Chapter 1 of the guide and stopped there (maybe that's the problem?) because all I wanted to do was remove the bloatware on my phone. I used the given link for Odin Multi_Downloader and db.tt/dSYCsVAh for the FF19. I followed the steps, everything matched the pic, the phone restarted and Odin said reset, so I figured it was rooted.

Here's where the problem starts: I then downloaded Titanium Backup to try to remove unwanted apps, but it couldn't acquire root privileges. I tried clearing the data from Titanium Backup AND Superuser, but it didn't fix it. I tried to update the binary in Superuser (it says my installed version is legacy) but it won't gain root access either, it just keeps failing every time.
I even downloaded Root Checker to make sure I rooted it correctly (because I'm pretty sure I screwed it up somewhere at this point) and these are the results it gave me:

Super User Applications Status:
Superuser application - version 3.1.3 - is installed!
SuperSU application - is NOT installed.

System File Properties for Root Access:
Standard Location
Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/su:
Result: -rwsr-sr-x root root 380532 2012-07-19 10:25 su
Analysis: Setuid attribute present and root user ownership present. Root access is correctly configured for this file! Executing this file can grant root access!

Alternative Location
Check Command: ls -l /sbin/su:
Result: /sbin/su: Permission denied
Analysis: File system permissions restricted and denied access.

Alternative Location
Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/sudo:
Result: /system/xbin/sudo: No such file or directory
Analysis: File /system/xbin/sudo does not exist.

Standard Location
Check Command: ls -l /system/bin/su:
Result: lrwxrwxrwx root root 2012-07-19 16:57 su -> /system/xbin/su
Analysis: File: su is a symbolic link pointing to another file: /system/xbin/su

Root User ID and Group ID Status:
SU binary not found or not operating properly

System Environment PATH: /sbin /vendor/bin /system/sbin /system/bin /system/xbin

ADB Shell Default User:
ADB shell setting for standard access, stored in default.prop, is configured as: shell (non root) user - ro.secure=1

Yeah.... no clue what that says. Can anyone help? I have no idea where to go from here. Sorry for the crazy long post! :(

Updating the su binary has been known to break root. That IMG should give you root. BUT if your goal is to debloat your system, then you should probably follow the guide in its entirety. Ctmod is designed to be the slimmest version of the stock rom possible. It even has added features such as notification toggles, quite a few speed optimizations and the ability to use a partition you create on your sdcard as the phones internal memory. Basically giving you as much internal storage for applications as you desire.

Ok, thanks! So should I just start over from the beginning and see if it works?

You should already have cwm recovery, so there is no real need to use Odin again. (but you can if you like) I would just start up where you left off. :)

Sorry, more questions! I went into recovery mode and tried to do a backup, but it didn't work. :(
It said: CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7, SD Card space free: 9MB, There may not be enough free space backup... continuing... Backing up boot image... Error while backing up boot image.
It then went back to the blue menu. I guess I don't have enough space? Should I try to partition the SD card and then do a backup? I only have the stock micro SD, maybe I need to get a bigger one?

If you only have 9mb free then that's DEFINITELY the problem. The backup is going to be fairly large. probably 200-300mb...

If you partition your card, the partition will be exclusively reserved for apps and their data. It won't be available for music/pictures/movies/etc.

I actually need to update the guide as well. A backup made from the stock rom can't be restored with cwm. Cwm doesn't support rfs format (the stock rom is rfs) so that backup is kinda pointless (with the exception of getting you familiar with using cwm)

Ok, thanks again! I'm going to buy a bigger SD card and then try again.

I have a notification from goomanager that there is an update for my rom. I downloaded it and there is a zip file, but I have no idea what to do with it. Anyone have a quick tutorial to get me going? I have ctm rom and kouma kernel

What version of CTMod are you runni9ng ???? If it is 3.75 or 3.75.2 than yes, there is an update. Current CTMod is 3.80.....

Make a backup, Put the .zip file onto the root of your SD Card, boot into Recovery and choose "Install ZIP from SD-Card !!

( You will need to re-download all your apps from the Play Store.... If you do a backup/restore with Titanium Backup, ONLY restore the apps, not the data !! )

Ok, like the title says, for dummies. I don't know how to make a backup, so I skipped that, I don't know what the root of my sd card is or how to move a zip file into it, so I skipped that. before I asked any more stupid questions, I wanted to see if there was anything I did understand, I decided to browse the Recovery menue, so I booted into recovery, chose install zip from sd card, then choose zip, and under goomanager, there was the update zip. so, being a dummie, I chose that and installed it and rebooted, hoping that I didn't need a backup. so now the update seems to be installed, but there is no boat browser. Is there a browser? I can't seem to find one. One of these days I am going to have to figure out how to make a backup and how to recover with it.

Chapter two: Clockworkmod

ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 for Samsung Prevail SPH-M820

Now after all those minutes of work, we've got ourselves a phone that looks remarkably similar to what we had before. Only real difference is now there's a one-eyed android in our app drawer named Superuser. If we wanted to, we could stop here and delete the stupid stuff boost forced upon us. But we're not. We have yet to play with the other powerful tool in our toolbox, Clockworkmod. This recovery utility allows us to install roms and kernels, make backups, create partitions, all directly on the phone. And the best part is, we've already installed it!

In this section we will make a backup of the phone, repartition the SD card, and install a custom rom.

How to do a CWM Backup

Step zero: Go read the Clockworkmod thread listed above, and send some thanks their way.

Step one: Power off the phone, then hold the Volume Up and Power buttons to boot into recovery mode. You should see a blue text menu. Use your Volume up and down keys to scroll, camera button to select, and the back softkey to go back.

Step two: Select "Backup and Restore" and then select "Backup". Now leave the phone alone again for a few minutes and let it finish.

to restore the backup you go through the same process but choose restore instead and then select the backup of your choice. (The backup is named with the date and time it was created)

so I skipped that, I don't know what the root of my sd card is or how to move a zip file into it, so I skipped that.

root of sdcard means /sdcard/... as in on sdcard, but not in any folders. He suggested that because it would make it easy to find. However the method you used also works just fine

before I asked any more stupid questions, I wanted to see if there was anything I did understand, I decided to browse the Recovery menu, so I booted into recovery, chose install zip from sd card, then choose zip, and under goomanager, there was the update zip. so, being a dummie, I chose that and installed it and rebooted, hoping that I didn't need a backup. so now the update seems to be installed, but there is no boat browser. Thanks for the reminder about the backup, and the change log. I think I have got it now.

At first Lightning didn't work, the little spinner just kept spinning, but after I rebooted, it started working, then I got an update notice from play store, so now I have it updated.

Whew, I think that's it, thanks for the extra patient help, I really appreciate it.

A while back, with your wonderful assistance, I rooted my phone. Things had been working great. I started getting a ROM Update request that I would ignore. Recently, I downloaded a workout ap called Skimble. During a workout, my phone froze. I was unable to get it to reboot so I removed the battery. The phone booted after that, but was quirky.

Thinking that I am "all that" with my phone, I tried to restore through Clockwork Mod. Half the time, it wouldn't' boot (Stuck on the Kouma Kernal screen). Then when it did boot, it started crashing. I was getting Forced Closure errors from almost every ap on my phone. I noticed that the update was gone and feared that maybe an incompatible update occurred.

I have tried so many things to repair the situation, I don't even know where to begin anymore. The last things I did was a factory reset. Still won't boot. Stuck on KK 2.5 screen.

Any suggestions????

Thanks.

Monica

You were right. I installed a new SD Card and my phone is working like a charm again. I don't know what I would do without you techies. You Guys Rule! :-P

Thanks!!!
