Root [Guide] How to flash the ZV9 update, for the technically challenged

OK. thank you. Thats what i thought. I am just wondering if its possible even for the updated radio firmware to be put in the updated rom build.

I'm not sure I understand your question... The official update.zip from virgin contains it all rom, recovery, and radio. As of right now no custom recovery can flash the radio.

The radio can't be built into a custom Rom as of now, but it really isn't needed either. A lot of information about the update has been coming in on five threads on three forums that I've been following. The bottom line is if you get good reception to begin with, the radio update probably isn't worth the effort. If you have poor reception, then it can help, but it's hard to measure in any meaningful way. Your mileage may vary.

Anyone else experiencing restarts when trying to send SMS after flashing the new radio?

Yes, it affects about 25% of those who have done it, myself included. Run fix_permissions from a terminal emulator (not recovery) that should help. Mine has rebooted exactly twice, but some people are having trouble with it. If you check the radio update thread for the V over at Androidcentral, you'll see this is under investigation. I've been tempted to pull this guide until we can find a solution.

Can someone clarify a few things?

I'm assuming CunningLogic-GorditaRoot-4win is only needed to root the new security update. And it's still possible to restore the original stock ROM backup, should I need to. And after doing so, Gingerbreak would still work to root/unroot the stock ROM?

Alright I did that and cleared data/cache for messaging, hopefully this helps.

I think mine has restarted about 10-15 times now since flashing the radio, which has started to get annoying.

Mine has also restarted about 15 times since lashing the new radio. Kinda wish I never did it now

Show me your /system/etc/gps.conf. Here is mine, it's tweaked and locks in no time with at least 6 satellites even cloudy sky and indoors:

How did you replace the existing gps.conf file?

I copied yours, renamed it to gps.conf and put it on the sd card.

Then, I used Astro to copy my file and when I tried to paste it in the system/etc/ folder, I got an error..

I also tried to move my file and still got an error :confused:

I think I got it...yeah..

I got QtADB working and moved the file..The new conf file does in fact show up right where it should be..

GPS seems to lock on almost instantly but I still have the "Searching for GPS" nag...I don't get it..

Well I'm sure this will get figured out. The zv9 radio will likely be what the newest ov will come with stock. One way or another it'll have to be worked out

Not sure what happened to my wifi, but I had to re-flash the Rom and all is well.

Replaced the gps.conf file once again. It locates me but still has the searching for gps nag.

Guess I'll live with it..
