Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

I've done backup but lost it during partition and installed android 4.0.4 on my htc wildfire s A510e. now, I'm having a lot of problem like I cant use market, cant restore backup, no internet passthrough, no contacts are showing from sim etc. So, I need to go back to android 2.3.5 again or any other rom which is stable and all feature works well. How will I do that? could u Plz help me?

In my opinion, you can try the Stock ROM with Rooted ability. It will satisfy all your needed features. I had almost similar experience. But I didn't even take the backup.

Just a doubt; I am not into modifying the stock ROM greatly, but forgot to take the backup through cwm recovery before i removed ebuddy xms. Had removed it via ES file explorer. I made the backup after this.
Should i run into trouble in future and i restore from the backup i took, will it work (with the removed stock app)? I ask this as it was specifically mentioned in the guide to backup before i made any changes to the stock rom and its been bugging me ever since.

Actually I removed ebuddyxms with Link2sd. But it's not an essential system app so it won't affect. It's best that you always toggle apps with Links2sd, apps2sd, etc...

Is there a list of essential stock apps that need to be left on if I root?
Not really into flashing a custom rom, just tweaking the stock one.

There is no List like that, but any app which is related to Android System or Phones Hardware stored in /System folder are not to be moved to SD Card. Even though Link2SD won't allow it but you shouldn't FORCE it. It might harm the device.

Some apps Like Facebook, Ebuddy, Email, etc..or will be as system app on Stock ROM but you can move it. Nothing to bother.

just to confirm, I am at the htc dev stage,

I have a wfs on meteor Ireland, version 2.3.5, do I still need the RUU?
Is it the HTC EU one?

also first step is to do a full back up of the phone, what is the best method?

I think, if your Bootloader is 1.08.xxxx or later version, then propably don't need to update it. Try skipping RUU to unlock bootloader (sometimes it might work, since I don't know much about METEOR).

Take a backup of your personal files like photos, contacts, docs, etc. Before rooting you can't take system backup.

You do a backup through a custom recovery that you flash to your phone once you have unlocked your bootloader.

In the guide it tells you to install ClockworkMod recovery and how to do it.

step one in this guide before root is:
1. Perform a full backup your phone’s data as you will be doing a factory reset.

HBoot is 1.09.0099

I have an Android Wilfdfire when I turned the phone off to the reboot screen to check my software it reads as follows:

MARVELC EVT1 SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1. 10. 0000
MICROP-0354
RADIO-0. 94. 00. 1226

In the forum GUIDE to root our androids it said DO NOT TRY THIS GUIDE IF IT SAYS MARVELC / A510C !!!

Does that mean I can't root my phone??!!
I really want to get rid of these ridiculous apps my service provider (metro psc) has filled my phone with. I love the phone but just want more space and to stop being asked to delete MY apps or make space. Please help! I am not very good at doing this whole thing but i can follow the directions and have common sense, and I love how detailed everyone is with their responses and intructions you all definitly make this easy for a girl like me! Im not sure if i will see a response in time to try this rooting thing out but you can email me at davie_misses@yahoo.com and it will make sure I get to try what ever help you can provide! Thanks everyone, wish me luck haha!

Some of you may have seen this on the intro board already, and I wouldn't have been so long-winded there if I'd have 'read the inst. first (duh). anyhow, here's the question.
Just got thru successfully rooting my wife's vm wildfire s cdma; with MUCH THANKS & PROPSto member CafeKampuchia & his thread How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON (finally!)..it was a LIFESAVER!

It was my very 1st attempt at rooting, had some trouble with the S-on thing, and to complicate things for myself I had already done the ota firmware update.
Her phone has the 2.3.4 Gingerbread (i'm assuming) firmware & 2.6.35.10 ker.
And now that this phone is rooted (CWM 5.0.2.8; Link2SD; SU; Titanium BU) I have a question about custom roms; when searching for one, should ALL the numbers match (ver., kernel, build, etc.) or can any rom be flashed? (stable ones, of course).

ANY help would be appreciated on this, as I have promised her a cool looking, well running phone. The well running part is accomplished, now for a cool look. We were scouring YouTube & came across a tutorial of 'simply honey 3.0' by simone201, and she likes that one a lot...problem is the reviewer used a Galaxy S i9000; but it was Android 2.3.3...and that's the reason for the #'s question; sooooooo....any enlightenment, thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated, as the experience will help in my next project...MY VM670 Optimus running 2.2.1...

Peace;
Sox

Once you are rooted you can install any CUSTOM ROM recommended for your device!. But make sure to back up your STOCK ROM thru CWM which would be useful, if you want your stock ROM back again.

[I almost tried many ROMs and now back to GB2.3.5. ]

i do all the steps that htcdev says to me correctly but when i write this into my cmd (fastboot oem get_identifier_token) it says (waiting for device) i'll wait for 1 hour but nothing happens plz help me

Your phone is probably not connected properly. Make sure HTC sync is not in the background as it can give problems.
