Root Guide to Rooting 2.2 for Windows and Linux

Need some help here. Im at step 26 for windows 32 bit. I placed the update.zip file in my root. disabled usb mass storage. but step 26 says click on install. I dont see any install command Im still at the same screen where you can choose to enable or disable your usb mass storage.

nvm, i had to navigate back to the prior screen. But i have a new problem. I attempted to install the update.zip but it was aborted. It says no such file of directory.

Is the update.zip file still supposed to be a winrar file? OR are you supposed to extract it first

Cmon helpers :-) im sittin here with a non working phone at this moment. what do i do with the update.zip file. I changed the name to update.zip but it isnt installing

After successfully getting through the instructions, using FRG22, I'm up and running but my 3G (both up and down arrows) have been lit constantly ever since I rebooted and it has been 30 mins now. Any ideas when this will end? I've rebooted again but it just starts up again.

How did you get FRG to install correctly?

Follow the guide or use one of the apps that I linked. The apps are much easier honestly

Thanks OMJ . My Droid is back!
I have a question ...
I received a replacement Droid under warranty.
I have to return the old one now.
The old one's screen went out. Everything is still working, is rooted and running a custom Rom.
Should I return it like that or use Rsd lite to reflash an official non rooted 2.1 or 2.2 build.
As I said above the screen doesn't work but all else does.

Btw where can I get a non rooted build? Or a file that restores the stock recovery.

Thanks

Update:

I fixed issues I was having with the root. Smh @ how simple they were..and how most of that stress derived from me being nervous lol.

But along with famac, How do I end the 2.2 update from being pushed to my phone? Its comes up every couple mins or so

it might help someone else.
I had 2.1 on my droid (via OTA update) and installed the leaked 2.2 FRG22 via the instructions for 2.2 rooting w/ windows a couple of weeks ago.

I received my OTA update yesterday and had the annoying pop-ups and after reading the forums decided to "install" it to get rid of it.

The install was definitely blocked.
Anyways, i hope that helps.

On another note yesterday and today i am having battery drain issues. Coincidentally this occurred when i received the OTA update files. I didn't have any drain issues before then which i find pretty interesting.
If it continues to be a problem i'll research fixes and will post back here.

THanks for the help and excellent instructions !

Well, i took the update after being nagged all day. Phone rebooted with the Motorola logo staying on for about 3 minutes. After that, the droid red eye came on and the phone completed the reboot. Not once did i see the triangle or "!". After reboot, i still have root and the nag is now gone.

Instead of the one he has linked to in the guide? I am trying to get rooted but I used FRG22 and now it keeps giving me an OTA notifiaction...

Sorry, my post should read:

When doing the Root from WIndows guide - can I use the stock FRG01B? Instead of the one he has linked to in the guide? I am trying to get rooted but I used FRG22 and now it keeps giving me an OTA notifiaction...

I may, but another wierd thing is happening - I allowed it to update per people's suggestion, and rebooted after. I was up and running with no OTA anymore - everything worked EXCEPT no Market access.

Any clue what caused that? It makes me want to try following the rooting guide with the stock FRG01b zip - would that work?

Im getting a network error has occurred....

when i run the SPRecovery in RSD Lite... it says failed everytime... when i download the sprecovery file from your link it asks if i would like to find a program to open it with. its like it doesnt download correctly for me... im not sure what i am doing wrong???

This will also work for going from stock 2.1 to Rooted 2.2

There are now two apps that can root 2.2 on the Droid as well as the method below

Universal Androot

Although this doesnt specifically list the Droid as a compatible device I have tested it and it works.
Can be found here
[APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.1) - xda-developers
or on the Devs site although its not in english
universalandroot ????

I am running a Droid 2 under

There are instructions for installing a kernel in the guide to all thing root related sticky and after that its just setting the clock speeds with Setcpu

After doing sudo ./sbf_flash -r --recovery SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf

and rebooting to install update.zip I get:

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update packages...
