Install one of the WHQL verizon drivers, reboot, go into device manager, and manually go to each one and right-click to select "Update Driver". The driver is supposed to be installed before plugging in devices, if you plugged it in beforehand Windows won't automatically apply new drivers.

All credit for this goes to SAMMYZ
im just mixing and matching a couple things to make it work for the lucid.
I bricked my phone and i was getting security error when trying to load. nothing was working.
LG tools didnt work. nothing did before this, so i would like to show all lucid users how to UNBRICK

Before we begin make sure your phone can get into download mode.
How to get into download mode
(volume up+volume down+power).
A screen will pop up saying phone is now in download mode. Horrary!

1. Download and install drivers:
LG VS840 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA

2. Download the programs to convert and flash firmware:
KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip

3. Download firmware from this thread:
http://androidforums.com/lucid-all-things-root/689876-official-lg-lucid-firmware.html

Instructions to convert the cab to a KDZ and flashing it: AKA UNBRICK
1.Make sure drivers are installed
2.Connect your phone to the computer in "Download Mode"
3.Open and extract KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip to a folder
4.Install msxml.msi
5.Disable antivirus software
6.Open UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe
7.Wait for the program to open
8.Look for "Encrypt cab file to kdz file"
9.Click the folder icon
10.Choose the location of the cab you downloaded for VS840 firmware
11.Encrypt cab -> kdz Program will freeze up. DO NOT EXIT until program says Done!!! Otherwise it won't finish converting.
12.Close program
13.Open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
14."Type" choose CDMA
15.Choose in "Phonemode": Emergency
16.Click the folder icon and choose the kdz file that UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe just made.
17.Click Launch software update and enjoy!

I performed all of these steps, but my phone needed to be charged. So I unhooked the phone from the computer(while it said "Downloading Do Not Detach Cable). Now I can't even get into "Download Mode". I only get the "Security Error" screen. My phone IS under warranty, but because of me rooting it, it shouldn't be covered. I have two options, as I see it.
Option 1: Figure out how to fix the phone and perform a factory reset.

Option 2: Take the phone into my service provider and pray that they can't get any further than I got, and in the process discover that my phone is rooted.

If anyone out there has an answer pertaining to my two options above, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How to charge a battery when a phone won't charge:

Take the battery out.
Get a USB cable you do not care for (any USB cable literally).
Cut off the end that doesn't fit in your computer.
Strip off the wire to get green white black and red.
We don't need green and white, strip red and black to the copper wire.
Connect red to the + terminal on battery
Connect black to the - terminal on battery
Hold it for 5 minutes after connecting USB side to a wall adapter.

I did this with a droid x after almost bricking.....lol

I've successfully downgraded to Gingerbread with the instructions on this thread however, with both versions posted, I do not get any service at all, 3g or 4g and wifi wont work either. Anybody else have that issue and solved it? I'm using LG Lucid VS840. I tried the zv5 and the zv6. Currently on zv6.

Also, i'm getting the application stopped notices for process com.android.phone everytime it locates verizon service then it cuts off when the error is acknowledged.

Actually nothing works as far as connectivity is concerned. No internet access means I can't install CWM recover and continue to the mod of my choice.

Same thing happened to me. I had to go back to ICS because I couldn't find a fix.

Try it again.

The FIX was, that I didn't see before or read or watch the youtube videos close enough, was to ___DO A FACTORY RESET___ after you flash back to Gingerbread. After you factory reset, you'll get connectivity back and can proceed with the steps.

Thanks! That worked. But now when I try to flash CM 10 CWM Recovery says: "E: Can't mount /sdcard/". Any ideas?

I figured I would interject a bit on this topic, being as none of the above worked for me. I DID fix my vs840pp, but what a long strange trip its been. To put things into context, I was "repairing" the mEID on a phone, then bringing said phone (vs840pp on verizon..) to StraightTalk via their BYOP program. Both phones (vs840pp and a droid eris) were owned by my client. Upon "repairing" the mEID with a A1xxxxxxxxx mEID, the lucid went into a boot loop. So anyhow, I found this thread and followed its instructions... Nadda. Flashed a vs840 fw to it, nadda same thing.. IE: boot looping with the new fw. I must have tried every cab on this phone under the sun with no luck. Finally, I was able to flash a vs840 4G LTE firm to it using LGNPST and a vs920 dll I found elsewhere. This at least got the phone up and running so I was able to repeat (!@#!@#) the process all over again once I tried to put that infernal mEID on it.. Moral of this story? Never attempt to put a A1xxxxxxxxxx mEID on one of these handsets.. It WILL brick it.

Just out of curiosity, by any chance is someone interested in hosting LGs latest firm for the vs840pp? I managed to backup (through creative CTRL-ALT-DEL'ing) the cab they send out when doing a emergency restore. File is VS840PP3_02.cab,roughly 538mb. I can confirm this is rootable using the LG Spectrum ICS one click. Let me know.

NOTE: this is flashable w\LGNPST and the vs920 dll file. I've now purposely bricked and restored above mentioned vs840pp no less than 15 times, always being able to recover using this cab + lgnpst. Its also worth noting that 2-3 times, running the LG Spectrum ICS one click put the handset into a boot loop, however 90% of the time it worked as expected.

I have a place to do that, same place as all the other cabs.

I can also place it in my Lucid Repository under the Optimus Exceed section.

...cab (VS840PP3_02.cab), pm me so we can figure out how I'm going to get it to ya. Ive only got 2048 kbps u\l, so its not going to be lightning fast but shouldnt be that bad.

So i am pretty noobish at this flashing and have basically no idea what i am doing.. however it does appear to me that every link posted here is a crap link.. i must have stumbled upon this thread too late or something.. because ive dwnloaded the .cab twice for v7 and it fails to open on my comp.. furthermore upon trying to download the drivers, its not even an application file.. but only a text file.. that came straight from LGs site.. i am very noobish as i said, so i am guessing that i am at fault for the issues.. any help would be greatly appreciated

I have the same issue . Just add .exe to the driver for example: LG.exe and it works .
you don't need to open the .cab file . You need to convert the .cab file to .kdz and flash it to your phone

You need to Read the instructions in the op.

Man, I cannot thank you enough! I made it work after I installed the drivers from the LG support page for my phone: the LG VS840PP from verizon

Thank you!!!!!!!! This totally works! BE SURE TO DISABLE AV. I use avast, and for some reason when i ran the program it started in login mode while avast was enabled, weird. Most of the links for the fw don't seem to work, i had to go with v7 alternative as one of the two downloadable files there. An update with new fw downloads would be extremely awesome.

FYI: This will unroot your phone, but i did not seem to loose any data.

Running the LG mobile support tool also shows error in extraction for the cab files it officially downloads.
Are all the cabs defective and no one cares anymore?

Ok, I got it working again. problem was finding a good cab file, many appear to be damaged.
I have a fast PC and it converted the kdz file in under a minute.
was watching this video, and used the google drive link with ver9 for the 840vz9.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B6qm6EiEv6LSTjNUUVczU2h4M1k

I actually accidently downloaded and 870 cab and it was reading but failed, so I had been glad to see something was working, then after getting the right cab and saw it working was very glad.
Getting into download mode seems awful hard. I had to plug in USB on PC first, then phone, then real quick press volume UP and POWER BUTTON together. Pressing down both volume up and down with power did not work.

here is log. It rebooted the phone too during the install.
