Root [[GUIDE]] Unbrick/Manual Update (UPDATED)

i tried it on the lg support tool it says only wireless upgrades are supported on this phone

Have you tried Sammy's guide using the LG flash tool?
I would give this a try... It seems to work very well!

Alright. The reason it won't flash is because once a jellybean bootloader is installed, you must start from the phone booted and in LG software mode in order to flash via offline KDZ.

The ONLY way to flash from bootloader with a jellybean bootloader installed is via LG Flash.

1. Download this: https://app.box.com/s/ua760vn52db4ainj92hb

2. Extract, install, and read the readme in that zip^

3. Download and extract the model # DLL for the KDZ you have: View attachment 66757

4. Use this to get a single BIN file from the KDZ QUICK KDZ EXTRACTION TOOL for FLS+BIN+CAB+WDB+DLL - Ver:0.1 - xda-developers

(Note: the single file will look like all the other files but no number at the end. It will be the biggest file in size in the BIN folder. You need this single file, everything else can be deleted.)(If you don't get it extracted to a BIN file, the model number you entered is wrong.)

5. Open LG Flash, select the DLL and BIN (Make sure the model number of the DLL and BIN file match.)

6. Look at images in this thread to properly set up LG Flash: LG Flash Tool - Free - no need B2B User/Pass - GSM-Forum ....basically in device manager, change COM# to COM 41 (Ignore the thing about COM75),put phone in download mode, then start the flash process, unplug phone for 5 seconds, replug and the flashing will begin.

so i manged to get to the lg flash tool but it just stays at com(41) then under it says ready!!! i unplug the phone and plug it back up then it doesnt do anything just stays there

This one has a little more detailed instructions. Give it a try and see if it helps!
Let MW know how it goes or if you need any help!

This guide is written to be noob friendly. If you do not take the time to read this post, I can't help you. I'm in college, I'm trying to find a job. I am also using correct grammar so Google Translate will do its job to the best of its ability.

Third, I do not make videos. If anyone wants to make a VIDEO (not words from this post on a .mp4 video file) go ahead, I'll probably update this post with a video if someone actually posts one, but it must follow this guide.

Fourth, there's no way to unbrick without Windows, stop asking.

Fifth, this will do a factory reset at the end whether you want it to or not.

Now, unlike everyone else I've seen posting on here, I like to keep things neat. Downloads at the beginning and instructions after. If you fail to read the instructions, not my problem.

Downloads:
Drivers: https://app.box.com/shared/32c5t7fj2w8xcwr0krjo
You need this to flash (READ THE README): LGFlashTool_L9.zip
And you need this to convert the KDZ to a BIN file: Download the attachment in the post
You will also need firmware.
MS769: http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=FW668495432109876543213/V10F_00.kdz (will add a mirror later)
P769: http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=FW959486573210987654321/V20H_00.kdz (will add a mirror later)
P760/769: [INFOBANK] Collection of LG L9 FACTORY KDZ R… | Optimus L9 | XDA Forum (Post 1 is Jellybean, Post 2 is ICS) (I don't have any direct links to P760 KDZ files.) If you want older firmware for MS769, I have V10b KDZ, but the site it is on right now is switching hosts or will be soon.

Instructions:
  1. Download everything from the Downloads section above if you have not already.
  2. Download firmware if you have not already.
  3. Extract all the zip files anywhere you can remember.
  4. If you can't figure out how to install drivers, you should have never rooted your phone.
  5. CONTINUE READING THIS POST.

How to extract the firmware from KDZ to BIN:
  1. Place the KDZ you downloaded in the EXTRACTED folder called "Place KDZ here"
  2. Open EXTRACT TO BINS.bat
  3. DO NOT OPEN THE BIN FOLDER. Doing so will throw an error and you will have to re-run the script.
  4. Once the BIN folder is renamed to the same software version as the KDZ file, you will see the single .bin file in there. Ignore the .dll and .fls files in that folder, we don't need them.

How to Flash the BIN
  1. There are 3 DLL files that came with the LGFlashTool_L9.zip file, find the model number that matches the firmware model number.
  2. After installing LGFlashTool (I hope you read the readme), open LGFlashTool, click "Select Manual mode".
  3. Where it says DLL, at the very right side of the blank white box there's a "..." button, click it and select the DLL that matches the firmware model number that you are about to flash.
  4. On the very right side of S/W, click "Add". Select the BIN file that we just extracted from the KDZ.
  5. DO NOT PRESS OK YET.
  6. Put the phone in download mode:
    Jellybean bootloader:
Turn off the phone, remove the battery. Put the battery in, hold volume up+down and plug in the USB cable, after 1 second of the USB cable being plugged in, let go of volume down, keep your finger on volume up until you see S/W Upgrade. If you see the LG logo you failed, repeat the step again.
    ICS bootloader:
Hold Volume up + down while plugging in the USB cable is the method I think.
  7. Now on the computer open Device Manager, go to "Ports (COM & LPT)". Expand it if it isn't already.
  8. Right click LGE Mobile USB Serial Port (COM#) and click properties.
  9. Go to the Port Settings tab, click Advanced..., change the COM Port Number to COM41. Press OK, press OK. You can close Device Manager now.
  10. Go back to LG FlashTool, press OK.
  11. Click this button now:
    8IthT.jpg

  12. Change it to look like this:
    8ItkK.png

  13. Press OK.
  14. Click this:
    8Itom.jpg

  15. Now unplug your phone, wait 5 seconds, plug it back in. Let it finish. Do not unplug until phone is 100% booted.

Enjoy.

well it started to work then failed at 80% and when i plug the device the driver update keeps opening and closing saying omap4330 then device unplugged and just keeps doing that

at 80 it says "we can't communicate with specific port" any help please?

Hi vincetrb23,
I would recommend trying to run the LG flash Tool again and see if it takes and makes it to 100% the this time. Make sure that the device is in download mode and that you have extracted the correct kdz. Try using the newer updated bin script here - [BIN]{LGFlashTool} Unbrick/Unroot/Flash ANY (P769, MS769, P760) in Download Mode - Post #11 - XDA Forum

Sorry I haven't had much time to research for a answer to you problem....
Please take the time and read through this whole thread for any pointers and tips that may help resolve your issue - [BIN]{LGFlashTool} Unbrick/Unroot/Flash ANY … | Optimus L9 | XDA Forum

when i try to install the driver it give me an error" [-5001 : 0x80070002 ] please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications, if error continue please contact your vendor "

when i did it and it reached 80 i use to put the bin and the fs file in there now its only the bin file now it says fail then the last phrase says startdownload exception

i'm still having problems , two actually , the first one i keep getting the please update r&d test tool, second one when i try fastboot, and i tried flashing a recovery through there i think it went a success but when i boot up the phone it still goes to lg screen and i don't know which command would boot it to the recovery also didn't know if i flashed a recent correct recovery on there, any help? and i've did the host thing but all that did was say please update r&d test tool. so im pretty stuck right now and your help would and is greatly appreciated so far

you mentioned flashing the uboot and xloaders to the device how and where would i find them to flash them to the device

You flash the uboot and xloader through the lelus fastboot script.
You have to get the lelus fastboot script set up on your PC, you run the script twice selecting option #1 each time to set up the PC drivers for fastboot. By default fastboot on the L9 is basically disabled. The lelus fastboot will allow you to access fastboot. Once you have fastboot working, you run the fastboot script again and choose option #3 to flash the ics uboot and xloader. Then try and recover the phone. On the R&D tool, make sure that your selecting Normal web upgrade

so basically while on fastboot choose option one, close it go back to fastboot choose option one again, then close it go back to fastboot and choose option 3 and it'll flash it by itself then try the r&d test tool, what about the update? dont woory about that?

Yes... There are two drivers that need to be setup through the fastboot script, both on option #1, take a look here - [Q] Boot loop Problems from Font Installer, Stock and no recovery - Post #34 - XDA Forum
This is a tricky part a requires a perfect timing to accomplish the driver installation.
Once this is setup, then run option #3 to install the ics uboot and xloader. Jelly bean on the L9 has issues with fastboot.
You can also update the recovery in the LG mobile support tool.
Run the LG mobile support tool and then look in the top right of the screen and select "Support Tool Options Menu" and then select "Upgrade Recovery"
Hopefully that will work for you and reinstall the stock recovery on your L9.

like i already have the drivers and stuff installed , i'm just still stuck on how to install the ics uboot and xloaders , when i press option #3 that says optimus 3D cube <SU870/P720> and inserting the battery etc and getting into fastboot mode it still doesnt do anything like its waiting for me to make a command : C:\omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.16>_ and that last underscore just blinks

The optimus 3d cube is not the right fastboot entry that you need to use.
Try using option #6 to flash the uboot and xloader. It should say in the script which option will actually flash the uboot and xloader.
Sorry... I am not near my PC to actually check the proper fastboot entries through the sceipt, I'm just going off memory here.
I won't be home until tomorrow afternoon... Been out of town for about 5 days now... Had a death in the family!

:( sorry for your devastating loss, may he or she R.I.P ,he/she is in a better place now, and i gradually appreciate your help even with a loss of a close one you're still helping others, thank you very much, and it only gives me 3 options and the fourth one is to exit the command prompt fastboot.

[VDO-GUIDE] Return to Stock Firmware via OFF… | LG G2 | XDA Forum based on this thread, on steps 4 and 5, when i download lgmobileax.zip its only on my download folder its not in the "C:\" directory for me to replace the files etc

Thank you for the kind works Vincent, I really appreciate it! :)
I'm not sure about this above method as it is for the LG G2, but should be very similar.
When you run the lelus fastboot script, [fastboot] l9 p760 p765 p768 p769 - Post #1 - XDA Forum click on and open the batch file... You should have about 6 options to use for fastboot and one of them is specific to flash the ICS uboot and xloader for your specific device 769. Then put your L9 into S/W upgrade mode and try the offline fix. [GUIDE] [UNBRICK][ROOT] FLASH Any LG L9 Fact… | Optimus L9 | XDA Forum

I will be home shortly and near my PC to try and assist you further.
These LG's can be a pain trying to recover them... But typically they can be recovered from just about anything.
Also what transpired to get your L9 in this situation?
