This phone does not use a SIM card, it uses a UICC card and its only purpose is for LTE 4G.The motion is a CDMA phone. It can only be taken to CDMA carriers that will flash the phone to the carrier. There are no Rom/root requirements for it to work on another carrier.
GSM phones use SIM cards, and the motion is not GSM. Neither is the LG Spirit. The LG F3, F6, L9 are GSM. The BLUE Samsung galaxy S3 for metro is GSM (the white one for metro is CDMA).
In 2015, I think, metro is not going to use CDMA anymore. Your motion will still work on metro, but only on LTE 4G. LTE is shared with both CDMA and GSM phones. The only reason CDMA phones can use LTE is because of the uicc card slot, which you thought was a SIM slot.... :p

thank you for worthwhile information! so i can use this with LTE carriesrs. i also can use other CDMA carriers.
is the WCDMA = CDMA?

Nope, WCDMA is for GSM....yep, very confusing.
You can use your phone on any CDMA carrier willing to flash the phone over. You can only use metro 4G LTE.On any other carrier you can only get up to 3G.

Thanks for keeping the firmware on hitsquad! Prepping my spare motion for sale and want it stock, though I'm offering to flash any roms the buyer wants and give lifetime software support. But it's cool to have the fully stock, unrooted option too.

Ahh... it's all back to stock again. Had a hiccup earlier and lg on screen wasn't reinstalled... works now!

It flat out tells you as much when you start it...

But text, calls, and net all work fine. So if you break your screen You can still use the phone over usb or any other network until you get a new phone or fix the screen.

The problem I had was with the unbrick not reinstalling some system apps

hey I rooted. installed pg's cm10. after i was playing with jellybean for awhile, 2nd init app wouldn't let me boot into recovery. my phone will reboot and skip recovery to just boot. i waited hours to retry but no luck. So i decided to go back to stock to do everything over again as i needed to access the recovery mode. i flashed kdz files d,e and f. it wen't through first time. phone will start booting at around 80's. and voila. been stuck on bootloop for HOURS. I do a lot of researches before i ask. I'm so frustrated. I don't know what i'm doing wrong. now the KDZ won't even work now. all the files fail to extract. Please Help. Thanks a lot in advance.

edit. volume down + power DID NOT work after MANY tries.

You note that volume down doesn't work, but I think you need to press both volume buttons to get into download mode. If you can get into download mode you can flash any one of the kdz files. No need to flash consecutively. Just flash the latest one you have.

Hey Sammy,

Holding volume down+power does not factory reset for me, and I'm stuck in a bootloop. Any insight?

power plus volume down doesn't work on firmware c. try unbricking to f. or use the version c method which is hold down power and volume down until you feel the soft vibrate then release and start tapping back and home alternately till factory reset pops up.

Thanks for the quick response Johnny. Version F was the firmware I originally tried to flash, and ended up with the same bootloop once the device restarted. Volume down+power didn't do anything at this point.

Version C is what I just tried flashing, and the method you described doesn't factory reset, phone just boots to splash screen and then loops. :(

Should I try D/E?

are you continuing to hold volume down and power after the lg logo on version f? you need to keep holding them until the factory reset confirmation screen pops up. theres no reason for it to not work. the method i described for version c is very tricky it takes precise timing.

Re-flashed F, took 3 restarts holding power down, but got the factory reset menu. Phone boots fine now. Thank you!

Good grief!
Followed this guide to the letter, and was getting really confused at the final bit where it reads
3GQCT : wParam = 2001, IParam = 1

At that point the phone would reboot, but would continually loop the MetroPCS logo (boot-looping). I ran this process three times before I realized that the hard reset I was trying to do in between each of them was WRONG. -_-

Hidden Issue While Learning to Root/Restore As a N00b #221: Don't neglect the terminologies, nor the processes for accessing the different modes at boot time, or you'll wind up only booting your phone by using the (now non-existent) recovery mode method, instead of hard reset you were trying to commit.

Thanks a bunch for this guide, it really did the trick! Although, I have to say I was a little worried for a bit there, because I couldn't be sure the battery was still holding out, and all indicators kept saying the process takes around 30 minutes.
Actually, it only took about 5, at least for me.

Thanks again!!

Depends on the computer.
If you have slow internet, could take a while to download. If you got a cab, could take a while to convert to kdz if you have a slow computer, would also take longer to flash it as well with a slow computer.

My desktop takes 2 minutes to flash it, my laptop takes 10.
