Help Handcent + Galaxy S 2

Ok so I'm pretty sure many have you have seen this problem posted online and all.. installed Handcent Messenger on my phone and to stop the default Messages services to stop notifications popping out, go to settings and disable notifications.

Did that to my phone, but the default messaging application still shows the unread messages counter which is really bugging me, I've ever succeeded to disabling the counter from showing it but was done by someone else, and when I updated Handcent recently it shows again, any advice? Thanks !
 
I am wondering about this as well, not a big deal, but would be nice to be able to turn off ALL notifications from the default messaging application.
 
Root your phone and freeze the stock messaging app with Titanium Backup, works great and stops the phones annoying habit of waking the screen every time you receive an SMS.

You dont need root for this:
Go to Samsungs's Default Messaging App, then go to Settings, and untick any option of Auto-Retrieve and at the bottom of the page also untick the Notifications.

The only notifications you will get then, is from Handcent SMS or any other messaging app that you decide to install.

Thats All There Is To It.
 
Have you tried GO SMS Pro?
I think this disables the stock SMS notification by default on install.

Does sending and receiving SMS through Handcent log the event in the overall system logs (ie. go to Phone, Logs) Go SMS does not. Just wondering if Handcent does
