Hands-on HTC merge training

I am going to a company training /celtics game potentially this friday the 19th, and was wondering if the forums had any questions they want me to ask or check on for the device? I will do my best to get as much info as I can. Hopefully the rumors are true that this will be a 4g device to launch alongside the incredible HD!

All I care about at this point is the release date; I've been waiting since September (when I became eligible for my "new every two"), and I'm a bit tired of the delays now. I'm just about ready to give up and get the D2, or jump ship and get the Epic 4G.

Personally, I could care less about the LTE... I don't live in an area that'll have it at launch, and I doubt that it'll be coming here anytime soon. But if it does turn out to be LTE, I wouldn't mind finding out how that's going to affect the data plan pricing - so I'd know how much more I'd be paying for something I wouldn't be getting. Just may end up swaying me toward one of the other phones I mentioned above.

Release date and pricing. I've been holding out for this phone even with the crappy Bing on it. Also, will there be docks for the desktop and car similar to the Droid2? HTC didn't support the Incredible the same way Motorola supported their Droid2 and X.

Of course release date is the most important thing. I've kind of committed to waiting for this, but I am starting to weaken. Although LTE is coming to my area I'd really just rather have it now.

My questions would be:

Is this indeed pretty much the same hardware (internally) as the G2/Desire Z?

Is the screen SLCD? (I assume this)

Will it have the "new Sense" a la Desire HD?

That's the major ones that I'm not 100% on from the limited info out there.

* also GO CELTS! :D You are going to have my dream day.

so the training was kind of a flop, they essentially showed us the phone (no hands on) said it would be released soon.

They mainly demoed it for the new HTC sense ui

no mention of lte but they did say there may be a refresh in early 2011 which makes me think they will release the phone then release a similar version with LTE54 months or so down the line.

Well, kind of disappointing that they still didn't give a solid release date; but your info does give us some new insight... we now know it should be 3G to start and that it should be running the new HTC Sense UI. Up until now the 3G/4G question was up in the air, and everything that's been posted of this phone showed it with the old UI.

Anyway, thanks for the tips! Did you happen to notice if it is still Bing'd out?

Now, if only it would be announced already...

I'm really disappointed. I've been waiting on a Verizon HTC slider for months. I've been due a phone since July and my wife's been due since April. If I don't get a firm date soon on this phone I'm going to have to go D2G. I don't love it but at least it's available and doesn't have Bing. I'm glad the HTC has the new sense UI though.

Kick ass! Couldnt have asked for it any better. New Sense UI, no LTE, and a soon release! Deal for me.

Its not that I dont like 4G, its just that I dont think its worth the extra money theyll make me pay for data. Specially right now when the foot print is still growing. Im fine with 3G....never had a problem with speed.

More excitingly for me though is that it will have the new sense ui! Are you sure of this? Did they actually say this new sense UI was going to be in the Merge? Or were you just saying that you happened to have demoed the new Sense UI and then the merge separately :p?

New Sense is big deal. First I've heard of it. The Bing is what it is - just wish it wasn't "hard-wired" into the phone like the Fascinate etc. All I need to know is if we can reasonably expect this before 2011.

No info on the hardware being G2-like? Screen 3.7/8 SLCD?

Sucks about the game too. Rondo injured is worse than any Bing.
