Help Hard Reset - Files still there

chexny

Newbie
I did a hard reset but my files are still there.

I did the hard reset via holding down Up/Down while powering on. It opened to the system recovery menu. I wiped data/confirmed/reboot.

When my phone relaunched I went through the set. Enter gmail account etc. But I still see the folders from apps with app data still in tact. Am I missing something - shouldn't this have deleted?

One of two things could have happened...

1. The apps were installed on your sdcard which caused the files to stay.

2. When you entered you google email address, google restored some files. If you do the same steps again... After completing the reset open google play, click on the menu button and select "my apps" in google play. If you see any apps being installed/updated click stop. Then select only the ones you want.

Google did not restore any apps. Different story there.

This was immediately upon reboot. I opened "my files" and the data files for all the apps where there. No sd card. Completely stock phone.

Do you have root on your phone?

Were there any apps or just the data for the missing apps?

Where did you locate the data? Ex. /data/...

When you do a factory reset it will only reset your phone. It will not format your sdcard unless you specify it with a Custom Recovery or in you phone settings options.

If you want to delete the data on you card as well you have two options since you do not have root

Go to the setting of your device look for the storage section. It will give you an overview of you data amounts for each storage in your device. At the bottom of that page you will have the option to format your sdcard. Select that option follow the prompts until it completes.

The second option is to go into settings and select back&reset. In that section you will wont to select factory reset. This will allow you to do a factory reset to your device and during the process it will ask you if you would like to format sdcard. Follow the prompts for complete reset.

Apps are not stored in usb storage. The USB storage is where your personal files, like pictures, are stored. If you want to delete that also, you would select format usb storage. If not, just select factory reset in settings. That will put you back to an out-of-the-box state as far as apps.
