Have some questions about upgrade tariffs :)

Hey guys,

My work is offering a new phone and I can pick between these high end models. I have to pay a little because they are more expensive:

Desire S:

I think I'd definitely go for the sensation on that one. (personally) although I would investigate the Arc too.

Desire S, not enough of an upgrade. Galaxy S too cheap feeling.

Optimus 2x is a pretty handset but the ram isn't great in comparisson to other models.

I think the RAM of the Sensation is only 1GB. I think the lg is more, but don't know by heart.

Hey guys,

My work is offering a new phone and I can pick between these high end models. I have to pay a little because they are more expensive:

Desire S: €100
Sensation: 150
Arc: 46
Galaxy S: 146
Optimus 2X: 136

I'm leaning towards the Optimus, but I want to wait and see what the Sensation is like.

What do you guys think?

Well, anyone else played one each of those phones? I have!

If you dont care how much you want to pay, its between the Sensation and the 2X.

Sensation over 2X
  • Better resolution screen
  • Faster processor (but only slightly)
  • Sense (good or bad)
  • Gonna be locked so bad for dev community!

2X over Sensation
  • Better screen tech
  • Much better quadrant score (3000 compared to 1500) Yeah, double. (blame the Sensations screen)
  • Hackers Device!

Another thing to mention, is that even though the 2X has a 4" screen, and the Sensation has a 4.3" screen, because the ration of the Sensation is 16:9, it feels more like a 4" screen, in fact it is smaller than the Desire HD;s screen (it is not as wide).

The new sense is funky too.

Hey people,
My contract is up in Jan 2012 so i'm just looking at the process I would have to go through to upgrade and I have noticed something strange.. This is the same on every website I have looked at upgrades on...

For this example I will use The Carphone Warehouse and a HTC Incredible S as the upgrade.

I have noticed that the "Upgrade" plans for the Incredible S on my network HERE are more expensive than the plans when you take out a new contract HERE. THIS is a pretty good

New customers are generally given a better deal than existing customers to entice them to sign up, just look at car insurance.
Often a lot of people once they are on a network contract will just stay on it and keep paying on the same contract over the initial contract term.
New customers are the ones that grow the network and profit - existing customers just maintain it.

I guess it depends what the network offers you.
Obviously they want to get you on a higher tariff if they can.
Another way is to take out a new contract with a new phone - but you won't be able to keep your number and stay in the same network.

If you go into Phones4U or Carphone warehouse, ask for a phone only upgrade, and ask them to check if you qualify for a loyalty discount (depends how long you have been with your network tho).

I did this and got a free phone + 15% off my current contract.

ok thanks lekky i will ask them when i upgrade. I will be upgrading with the carphone warehouse or somewhere like that as all their phones are debranded

Yeah for sure, typically in my experience Phones4U give better contracts than Carphone Warehouse, but you'll have to deal with an ass to get it lol.

Best to go in both anyway, and always make sure you understand the full cost of the deal, the one that looks the best typically is more expensive :P

Ok then, thanks very much for than info mate. Ill be sure to shop around for the best deal when my contract is up in 8 months - thanks again :)

I don't know about your carrier but T-mobile let you upgrade 3 months early.
In my case 3 months early is still a very long way away ;)

yeah ill prob not upgrade early tho. ill upgrade late if anything so i can get a new 2012 HTC :D

Always remember that YOU are in the driving seat when it comes to upgrade time. Ignore what price is on the providers site and tell them what YOU want. You will be surprised at what you can get. I had been with voda for 6 years with different phones and plans and this time l was eligable for an upgrade next month. When my

I'm not upgrading anytime soon, but I was just wondering, if these new HTC phones don't have open bootloaders will that mean there will be little development community?

Because I love the build quality of my Desire and plan to stay with HTC after.

Not to hijack the thread, I'll put in my two cents and say my vote goes to the Sensation too. Although the Optimus would be nice too.

I ordered the phone today and went for the SGSII. The bootloader issue with the sensation has been fixed, but most reviews preferred the SGS2.
I don't care for thouchwiz and use LP+ on my HTC so that's not an issue.

Also the makers of Gingervillain have a rom for the SGS2 now.

I'm sad to leave the HTC line of devices, but I think I went for the best device so far. I will certainly keep an eye out for future HTC devices. Their built quality is teriffic.
