Many Android users (and news sites) are at anger with Google for not prioritizing a bug where a text message will be sent to a random contact rather than it's intended recipient.

I was surprised because I hadn't even heard about it, or seen it talked about here. Maybe those who use 3rd party apps are not affected..?

I had this problem on my original Droid once or twice, but I haven't had it since switching to the X about a week ago.

the only sms bug ive been having is when you send a text message at the same time you happen to receive one it will not send. IT JUST ERRORS. THIS HAPPENS TO ME CONSTANTLY AND MAKES ME WANT TO FLY MY F-ING DX ON THE GROUND.
sorry for caps

I've never heard about this until now. The consequences of this actually happening would be catastrophic for me though!!

This isn't limited to just the DX, but any phone on the network.

last week I received the same text message from someone who I dont know three times. there was a pic attached and it was also the same each time. Unfortunately it wasnt a naughty pic...

This hit Slashdot because it was made out to be a big deal that afflicted millions of users by APPLEgadget.

Naturally, because I call engadget APPLEgadget I was meta-moderated into troll by apple fanboys.

After this story was posted people spammed the Google bug about it saying 'me too' with no useful debugging information or how to reproduce it to generate even more hype around it.

I have never seen this bug on either stock android or on any of the 'skinned' interfaces.
I won't say it's BS but the stories citing millions and tens of millions creating sensational hype, especially on the apple leaning news sites (which seem to be the only ones that are publishing stories about this) is being sensationalized into the heavens.
One cited 'thousands of job losses and divorces'
Yeah whatever..

This actually happend to me about two weeks ago. I was texting someone at 4 in the morning and when my girlfriend got up i got a nice "wtf, who you texting at 4 am and what is a sig" I was talking about my new handgun, and i had deleted all previous conversations. So guess it was that bug huh

I've owned 5 different Android devices since Oct. 2008, and this has never happened to me. Sounds like BS to me.

you are not the only one!

Same here.

Another concern is that social, weather, shopping apps, etc., that keep changing location and security settings on their own, overriding my preferences.

McAfee is warning about the vulnerability of GPS and Wi-Fi location services on all Android devices.

My sister-in-law is one of those oblivious heavy facebook users letting everyone know her every move. She's one of those young, exceptionally attractive women.

She thinks-not (hardheaded ultra-liberal ever-trusting that she's protected 24/7 by Law Enforcement and has a complete and balanced SHEEP mentality).

She's been stalked by pervert hacksters that know her location and every move.

She won't listen one bit to my brother or myself about the dangers of social networking.

.

I get duplicate text messages more often that not...it's infuriating. This happened on my D1 too! It's enough bugs in android now to make me think about switching in the future.

Yes, if you use handscent you are particularly vulnerable, as well as being vulnerable to being shunned by everyone who meets you..........however, users of handcent are immune from this problem :-)

Nope. Sometimes I'll be holding my phone oddly and the finger press will register somewhere else, opening a different message, but other than that. No

Haven't had anyone TELL me they received a TXT not meant for them. Shuddering at the possibilities...
I joke around with a lot of friends. Just sayin'.

Its never happened to me. I always follow the same rules as at work. Never type anything you don't want the world to read.

I have had this happen, and it is not sent to a "random" person. Actually when you click a thread, it does not select the one you hit.

IE I may click a thread with my wife, but it will open a thread with my brother, and if you just type fast, you may never notice you have the wrong thread open.

For a long time I thought it was my fat fingers, but then I started to pay close attention and saw it happen first hand.

I have had a different person's name go in when choosing someone else's when texting. I always check the name before hitting send. ALWAYS!
