Root Have you heard...root for 1.5

here here! bye bye half of the preinstalled apps. I never use most of the crap on this phone.
However! Can you back them up and reinstall them later. Say I do decide to twitter someday, Dec 21 2012. I would like to reinstall the the app should I want. Can you dump it off to your PC for long term storage?
 
LOL Grdlock, as soon as we get root for the 2.1 leak, I'm gonna do the same thing :-)

How much memory have you freed up?

Just came from irc.. and I'm Not sure why you're laughing... You wont have Navigator with your 1.5-2.1 root. Yet.

Thats the main reason I, and alot of others used the leak to begin with. Not to mention the UI is completely different and in my opinion, much better.

So stop laughing, cuz soon we'll have root, WITH navigator!


Not to mention. SetCPU isn't working to overclock either.

Edit: Someone at xda must have been messing with me, or they just simply didn't know. Disregard above message, was just trying to help out. I edited this post to keep integrity on the forum. My mistake.

Umm, the root upgrades the phone to 2.1, which has navigator, and the same UI as the 2.1 leak... but with root access. :p ;)

Not sure where you got your information, but I'm running the rooted 2.1 and just tested navigation. I'm quite impressed and very happy with it by the way.
 
Ok I have another dumb question. I see a lot of posts in here about ppl being excited for the 2.1 root. What I am not understanding is...this is a 1.5 root that upgrades the phone to 2.1 with all the bells and whistles right? So the what is the difference between 1.5 and 2.1 roots? As y'all can tell, I know less than nothing about this stuff, that's why I'm here. What is the difference between the 2 roots if they both operate on 2.1?

Technically, its not a 1.5 root. It is an upgrade to 2.1 where 2.1 is already rooted. If it was a 1.5 root, you could root and still have 1.5.

To Mount use
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

Ok that makes sence I think. So does that mean that the only difference is the original 2.1 leaked was not rooted, and this one is? I think I'm starting to get it.

Pretty much. That and this one is a slightly different kernel.

Okay where do i put that in at

i am currently using Android Terminal Emulator for my Droid Eris
 
okay i tried this
$ su
# mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
and nothing happend what else should i try

Well if some one who does know what they are doing please help by showing how it is supposed to be typed including the $ and # or how to get it to where there is no $ # help i need to do this so i can use my pdanet

Um, the guy answering your questions has something in BIG BOLD letters to help you. Go there and speak with the people who root devices and really know what they are doing. That way you won't have to wait for one to wander over here and see your problem.
 
He is trying to send you to a place where you can get helped before you get flamed. Jumping down his throat because you jumped on something you may not have been prepared for isn't quite fair. Google internet relay chat and use info supplied and see what happens.

Wasnt hoping down anybodys throat and wasnt getting flamed but ive been to that website idk what to do but to sit and wait like everyone else is doing so im with yall just sittin with my rock in my pocket
