Root Having Problems

So i'm trying to get back onto Apex RC2 and having major problems, probably easy solutions that im not thinking about. So i SBF to ,340 then Z4root install D2Bootstrap go into CWR and try to install the 2 part update to GB and it comes up with installation aborted. So i do the whole process over again and try to install the 3 part update to .595 to see if this will install and same message comes up installation aborted. I'm having the time of my life trying to figure this out ive spent numerous hours last night trying to try different ways there has to be something i'm missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. I just want my AOSP back :)

Have you double-checked the file sizes and MD5 sums of the files you are trying to flash (i.e., to make sure they are whole and uncorrupted)?

That's the only thing I can think of...(i.e., the files didn't quite make it intact to your phone).

Ive had these files saved to my computer for awhile and have used these files before.

Yeah, I was just asking because my first rooting experiences were on the Eris and you wouldn't believe the number of folks that would simply drag and drop the files from their PCs without doing a "safe eject" before pulling / disconnecting the USB cable (to make sure all the little bits actually get transferred from everybody's buffers ;)).

This (^^^) was pretty-much the reason I wrote my AFV app ;)...

The custom recovery we used on the Eris (Amon_RA's) always checked the signature of a ROM or update.zip type of file before allowing it to be flashed. It used to be (I don't know if this is true anymore or not) that ClockworkMod did not automatically do this signature check and would allow you flash a file that was not whole and/or uncorrupted. So, "we" (us old Eris alums) got into the habit of checking our files at the "last mile" (i.e., the phone) since that's where all the action is taking place, eh?

By the way, my app has a "Verify Jar-type File" function that will allow you to do a "jarsigner -verify" type of check that will tell you that the file on your phone is good without even having / knowing the MD5 checksum.

Good luck.

Cheers!

and when i tried to flash MUIU i downloaded straight from their website and same thing happened.

LOL, yeah, but I can't tell you how many threads and posts I've seen (and even experienced myself) re. truncated, direct downloads to your phone (no guarantees that the entire file is there...;)).

Wow those are some big words lol. I guess i'll try to download file again and try it.

:p :) No guarantee that it (a truncated download) will turn-out to be the problem, but its a good (and easy) thing to rule-out.

Hopefully, if that's not it, someone will at least see our post "activity" here and join-in with some helpful advice.

Cheers!

Ok i thank you for the help. I'm just going to try and download the MUIU file again. Straight from their website it was 99.5 mb and i'm just going to flash this right over .340 correct? Hopefully that works i will try to eject it safely. And i think you thought i was downloading it straight from my phone, i am not im doing it from my computer.

Well, my references above were assuming that you would need to be checking whatever files you would be flashing from ClockworkMod (i.e., on your phone) since the file could be good (whole) on your PC, but incomplete after trying to transfer it to your phone (its a data-transfer "hop", after all).

Does my baseband being .07 have anything to do with this mess?

Not sure...that's where the "other guys" (who actually know about these combinations) would know...

Wish I could help you there...:).

Hopefully one of the "big guns" will see and chime-in (crossing fingers for you).

how do i check if the file is good once on my phone?

You can use my app, AFV (Android File Verifier) [free, in the Market]...

The publisher of your files should be listing the file's exact size and MD5 checksum (at the very least).

If you are using my app, just navigate to where the file is on your phone, long-press the file name, and select "Calc MD-5 CHecksum" and wait for the results to be displayed. If you have Astro File Manager installed, it will also calculate an MD5 checksum for you, too (long-press the filename, select "Details" and wait for the MD5 to be calculated).

Compare the resulting values (file sizes and MD5 checksum) with the published values.

If your file is signed (the website should indicate if it is or not), then you can use the "Verify Jar-type File" function to check its integrity without even needing to know the MD5 checksum.

If i go to the file on my phone the total file size is 101933kb

What's the download location for your files? (is it P3Droid's TBH site?)

i used your app did the jar verify. 857 files in manifest 857 files verified 0 files failed verification

Nice! :)

I double-checked the MD5s on both my PC and my phone...the checksums matched the website (very good that they published it ;)).

I also did the "Jar Verify" and see that the file is indeed signed and "happy" just like your results (857 files...duration 53.47 seconds).

Well, at the very least, you know you have a good download, now you just gotta check the MIUI thread or find someone with MIUI knowledge.

Cheers and good luck, Aaron!

Ok just went into CWR and pressed install the zip and its on Installing update haha this might actually work. Weird that it worked now. Hmmm

You might well have had truncated (incomplete) prior downloads...

It worked i am running MIUI, now to find out how to install themes. Thanks a million scary alien your the man today.

No problem, Aaron...you at least have a new tool in your arsenal to check these kind of things.

Happy "MIUI"-ing :D (don't feel bad...I had to carefully check and double-check how I spelled it since I always pronounce it "mew-ee" (which I have no idea if that is right or wrong, LOL)).

Cheers and glad you are up and running! :)
