Root Having some big problems

So I successfully rooted my phone and started getting everything figured out, and installed Cyanogen 6.1. When my phone rebooted into cyanogen, it would just loop the cyanogen startup screen. I can get into Bootloader but when I go to restore my phone it gets stuck saying that it is searching for MD5 file and never goes anywhere after that. I thought I correctly made a backup, but not sure what to do?

Hmmm, if the nand restore keeps failing, might want to just try reloading CM or another rom. First though, be sure to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache (under advanced menu) all back to back, then load the rom from the SD card. If you didn't do this the first time around, it's not surprising you're getting the loop. Even if you did wipe, sometimes it just happens and a re-wipe and reload may take care of it.

just to let you know, if its says checking MD5 sums it can take a while before it starts working. i have this all the time, it can take 5-10 minutes till it starts restoring. just to let you know.

Is it possible you renamed the backup? There are rules as to how you can rename it. If you renamed it incorrectly, the md5 checksum is exactly where you will get caught up. I only rename mine through ROM manager (the free version). RM will not let you rename it incorrectly.

Did I read that right? You were having troubles with CM7 so you were attempting to restore and you get the md5 error? This may be your problem. If so, you will need to rename it back to EXACTLY as it was before. Not sure how to do that but there are threads on other forums such as XDA that ask the same questions. If need be, just google {XDA md5 restore name} or some such.

It is important to put your phone down for 10-20 minutes when doing these things.....done things get hung up for a while but work just fine...
