Root Having troube flashing ROM's with ROM manager

Newbie
Hey guys, I have my Evo 2.2 rooted using unrEvoked. I followed all of Matlock's instructions on flashing ROM's using ROM manager. I downloaded MYN Warm 2.2 RLS4 and tried flashing it. It rebooted but did not go into FLASHING mode so I'm kinda confused as to what I should do. Is the a special way I need to flash the first ROM coming off a stock rooted EVO?

Thanks

That's odd, it should work......You say when you rebooted, it didn't go into recovery??? After you downloaded the ROM in the notification bar when you press that notification it should give you an option to install that particular ROM, then give you the option to wipe data plus make a backup.....Did you go through all that???

Just boot into recovery....select "Install zip from SD card"...then select "Choose zip from SD card"....and then select that zip.....in this case it should read something like "Myns update RLS4" or something like that. If you downloaded the zip over the air(ie not pushed from your computer), then the file will be in the /download folder....download with a small "d" and not a capitalized "D".

I don't use ROM manager because it is too glitchy. Get used to loading ROMs manually thru the recovery menu....it is just as easy when you can boot straight into recovery...which is a feature of Myn's.

Good luck and let us know.

... or quick boot is a nice app for booting right into recovery regardless of your ROM.

I've never actually used ROM manager to flash a ROM. It's so easy to just download it to the computer, drag and drop it on the sdcard and then reboot into recovery. How could ROM manager make it that much easier?

Yeah, it reboots me into recovery. But when I reboot into recovery I have four options. Bootloader, rebootbootloader, reset and power down
BOOTLOADER---> FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, SIMLOCK, and HBOOT USB

So I can't find the way to install a zip from the SD card...
Thanks for the help guys.

Download quickboot from app market like hortsu mentioned earlier in this thread, then reboot into recovery and see if you see the same options???? You should see:

Install Update.zip
Choose Zip from SD Card
Advanced

I know I'm missing a bunch of other options, but you *should* see something along those lines.

Ok, I tried that and I still don't have the option to install from SD card...
Could this be some kind of problem with my root access? I am almost %100 I'm completely rooted.

Select bootloader. Then select recovery. Then you will have all the options to flash.

in rom manager use the option to download clockwork recovery. I don't use rom manager so I can not walk you through where it is.

sounds like you have no recovery and need to install it.

you can also grab it from unrevoked's website or search google for clockwork recovery

Great point/suggestion.......In ROM Manager it's the top option (you can't miss it). Once you flash Clockwork Recovery, reboot into recovery and you should see all those options to flash like we've mentioned earlier in this thread. Let us know how it goes!

Well I tried that the first time. I flashed ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1 and selected "reboot into recovery". My problem is my phone has no option to flash a ROM from the SD card.
I've tried doing a factory data reset and it didn't help. Are there any applications that could be interfering with my recovery mode?

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.

when you get into recovery there should be an option to flash zip from sd on the main page. I have a feeling your not in recovery. What options do.you see? Recovery will have a black background with green writing.

Don't use ROM Manager to reboot into recovery anymore, do it manually or through Quickboot from app market.....

Have you tried using a different recovery?? I know ROM Manager can be glitchy at times. Go to ROM Manager<Flash Alternate Recovery and flash RA Recovery and try again......When actually in Recovery you'll see and option that will allow you to choose zip to flash from SD card. Let us know how it goes.

I think maybe we need to make a distinction, here. When you turn the phone off, then press and hold the volume down key while you turn the phone on, you'll be taken to a white screen. That's hboot (ie, your boot loader). If you see that, that is *not* recovery. While you're there, do you see something that says s-on or s-off? What are the menu options. You should see something that says boot into recovery. Recovery, whether you have clockwork or RA, will be a black screen with menus, and will either say Clockwork or Amon RA at the top. What have you seen so far from what I've described?

Hey guys I finally got the phone into recovery mode. Thanks so much for all the help. I'm still kinda clueless why it refused to go into recovery mode but I guess it fixed itself. Its all good now!!

I'll soon be enjoying warm tasty snacks! Thanks again. :):):)
