Root Having trouble updating

Gashog

Lurker
I rooted my phone very soon after I got it and haven't really done anything with it since. I got the apps I needed and used it and pretty much forgot it. Well I notice that I'm still using FroYo 2.3.340MB810 and I want to update my poor phone. 4.5.605 right?
I erased and formatted so the phone is restored but Clockwork is still on it. It wont update.

I think it's time I stopped and asked for help since it's snowing here and my boss will be calling me to plow tonight. I've searched for a day and a half and I'm more confused now.

Anyone?

Gashog,

I've moved you to the Droid X all-things-root area per the kind heads-up from teddyearp.

The good folks in the DX root area should be able to hook-you up.

Cheers and good luck!

If he is only rooted and hasn't flashed a ROM or removed any stock apps, couldn't he just accept the OTA and not have to sbf?

I don't think you can accept the OTA if you're rooted. Especially going from Froyo to Gingerbread. I could be wrong, though. The SBF to 602 process is easy enough, though, that he should just do that.

Usually OTAs are blocked from coming-in unless you rename the otacerts.zip file or disable (rename / delete / freeze) the BlurUpdater.apk (or SystemUpdater.apk--I'm a little fuzzy with the exact name, but you get the picture). Simply being rooted shouldn't block an OTA coming in or being install--its the custom recovery that makes the difference.

As far as getting an OTA installed, usually if you still have a stock recovery, it will install. But with the DX I'm thinking that maybe all one would have to do would be uninstalling the Droid X/2 bootstrapper?

You guys will know for sure, though...its been a while for me, LOL :).

Cheers!

If you rooted and did nothing else to it then you should be able to take the OTA updates. There are gonna be a few since you are still on Froyo, although VZW may just skip them and go right up to .605. For whatever reason you are not able to take the OTA's then just follow the link provided by Trophy and you will be good to go.
