Root [HBOOT] Getting version too old errors?

Try this bud "file"
Just remove the "b-" in the name.

This file allows me update and no longer gives the "version too old error" but it does not appear that I am rooted after the reboot. Titanium Backup gives me an error saying it doesnt have access to root and I went into the terminal emulator app and the first line has the $.

Am I missing anything or is there anything else I should be doing? This file that was posted was meant to be a replacement for the dead link in the tutorial, correct?

You have to flash SuperSU in the custom recovery in order to gain root privileges. I posted the link a few posts above yours.

I see. I thought there were multiple methods. The problem with attempting that is I cannot find a copy of CWM since the 2fast website is down. Any chance you have it and could post it?

Yeah just depends what carrier you're on. The boost version I linked a couple posts before as well. Sprint, I have. Just let me know and I'll post the link if Sprint Recovery is what you need.

Ok, I am following you now. I thought the "b-PH44IMG" file you posted earlier was a replacement file for the dead link in the guide at the top of the page. I see it actually had the recovery.img file in it. So is allowing this file to update from the card the same as using the cmd prompt from my computer to get the recover.img file onto the phone?

Yes, you just need that file on the root of your SD card and boot into hboot. It should then scan your SD card and find the .zip file. To boot into hboot do a battery pull and then hold volume(-) and power.

I'm trying to root my EVO Design 4g on Sprint and can't seem to find a worthy CWM zip to flash in fastboot. Any chance you could post that Sprint one you mentioned? :)

is there any way i can do this from command prompt? my phone is stuck in bootloader and it wont let me go into recovery

I'm sorry jssa28 all this is very new to me.

I have to copy and paste all the setmainversionlow in to the PH44IMG file?

first find one of the guides here on how to install a custom recovery if you haven't

after that just flash the setlowmain.zip right in CWM (custom recovery), you dont have to copy and paste any files
