Root hboot help

I bought a inspire from a friend. When I power up the the phone it goes into the boot screen. It will not select any of the selections. What can i try to load in hboot? Any links.. What do i change the name of the zip file too?? img or diag? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I don't own this phone but stumbled across this thread. I would try to locate the most recent RUU (the .exe program run from the PC), then hook up phone to computer in fastboot mode and launch the program from your computer. If you have trouble getting device recognition you can download HTC sync which comes packaged with the USB driver for your phone.

If that doesn't work, you could look at installing the factory rom to your SD card and trying to load thru hboot. Do you have the sdk installed by any chance? Ever use fastboot on this phone previously? Hopefully somebody can point you to the files for your phone, otherwise I'll check around later. One other thing...is there multiple carriers for this phone and if so, what carrier is/was your particular phone running on?

I have tried the ruu and it does not find the phone neither does the htc sync program.

You don't actually use the HTC Sync program. You only download it because it comes packaged with the drivers you need and what's more, keeping HTC Sync installed on your machine can actually interfere with the RUU. So uninstall it but keep the driver that came with it, I believe it will show up as it's own entity in add/remove programs. Then retry the RUU. And just to be clear, you are in hboot, with the phone connected to the PC via usb cable, then you use the volume keys to highlight fastboot, then press the power button to select it. Then try the RUU.

Also, can you provide a link to the RUU you are trying to use? I'd like to see which one it is. Thanks.

ok i deleted the sync program and tried the ruu again. error 170 connection. in the hboot the volume button will not let me select anything also. the ruu i tried to use is the gingerbread 1.0.3 ruu cingular.. dont remember where i got it. When i first d/l the htc sync it would not let me select any hboot options or even recognize the phone. it did come up as android 1.0 but the driver cant be found.

what is the information on your hboot screen?

make sure you are starting the .exe with your phone in fastboot and not hboot (power on into hboot, select hboot with vol rocker/power button. youll have to wait a few seconds for the green writing to flash, then disapear before making any selections)

also,i like these drivers from revolutionary, rather than htc sync, you might try installing those.

if the .exe wont run,try it 2 or 3 times at least,.exes seem to be somewhat finicky.

if it still wont run,we can describe how to flash "rom.zip" in hboot, rather than running the .exe file.

what is the information on your hboot screen?

+1 on this question, please list it for us.

The GB file I'm seeing for ATT (cingular) doesn't seem to reference the 1.0.3 you mentioned. We need to be sure we are dealing with the correct RUU. Are you sure the guy you bought the phone from was using that carrier?

The problem the rocker=volume does not work.. i can hold the down and the power and it will start to do something with the sd.. the problem is im reading so much different info.. i really dont know what to name the file... the computer will not even rcognize the phone..loaded sync and ruu. i would like to get it to orginal rom.. the guy i got it from probley loaded it and messed it up.. im thinking cause the hboot screen comes up there still might be hope..

i would not let the phone flash a PD98IMG that you did not put there, its hard telling what it could be

are you sure the vol rocker isnt working? if you hold vol down, and power, from the phone being off(push vol down first),and it boots to a white screen with colored letters and checks a file, sounfs like its working fine- thats hboot. tell us the info on that screen.

i would put the card into a card reader, remove the PD98IMG that is prolly there on the sd. put the sd card back in,and boot to hboot again. for S&Gs,you might select recovery, and see if you go to "clockwork" or some other custom recovery,or a screen with a phone, triangle, and !(stock recovery)

you can try wiping cache/dalvik cache if you happen to get clockwork or custom recovery. with stock recovery, hold vol up intil you see a menu. then you can try the wipe cache option there as well.

failing that, boot to hboot, select fastboot with vol rocker/power. run the .exe as administrator(if your version of windows allows that) with the phone in this mode.

but,as iowa said,it would be good for you to tell us your hboot info first.that way we can better help you :)

this is what the screen says

when i pwer the phone on it goes stright to the hboot without pressring the volume down.

yup... both use that radio. hboot 0.85.0024 seems to b common across region/carrier ruus. i know for a fact its used in the ATT: RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_Cingular_US_2.47.502.7_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_200368_signed.exe - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload. FileFactory.com

i could download and double check the telus one for hboot .0024:
Shipped ROMs

prolly the safer bet is ATT,but if its superCIDed either should flash :)

i can walk you thru checking the CID,or you can pick one of those and try and flash it. if it fails with a CID error, try the other. :)

I guessed ATT also. Extracted the rom and renamed. I'm not sure if your volume rocker is shot or if it just wasn't working earlier for some reason. Anyway, place on a fat32 formatted SD card and hope for the best IF the phone is verified as being ATT:

The pd98file you sent is working!!! Its loading now!! Ok it finished loading and the volume button wont let me select anything still. Im just guessing i need to slecet 2 for boot... So im guessing the volume button is shot??????

update!!!!! removed the rocker for the volume pressed the button with a pen and boom!!!! it worked!!!! thanks guys!!!! Yall rock!!

I have an unlocked HTC Inspire and use it with a monthly TMobile 4G plan (phone is branded AT&T).
Yesterday it suddenly jumped to this message (below) and I've tried every option (incl factory reset) several times and it always comes back to the same menu. I somehow got it to start in safemode by taking the battery out, plugging it into my laptop and doing 3 cart wheels counterclockwise (jk). When I try to restart the phone while in safemode, it goes back to this message (below). I don't know how to start it in safemode now but I'd be happy to live with it forever in safemode at this point. I've been at this for hours & no progress. Any info is appreciated. Thank you!!

Hey Guys,

I'm fairly new to all this stuff.

My younger brother had an HTC DHD and has somehow managed to screw it up lol.

I have been reading all kinds of forums the past week trying to see if I could get a fix for this without having to actually join a forum myself. But haven't been able to figure it out.

I'm hoping someone can help me here.

The HTC Desire HD is completely shot, or so it seems.

When I turn on the phone it vibrates, goes to the white screen with the HTC logo, and then goes to an image of the phone with a red Exclamation mark inside a red triangle.

From reading other forums, I have found out how to access the HBOOT by holding down the power and vol. down at the same time.

This is what it shows:

I also found a link to download the PD98IMG.zip file and put it on the SD card after formatting it (fat32) full format.

When I load HBOOT, it automatically starts working away...this is what happens:

SD Checking...
Loading...[PD98DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PD98DIAG.nbh]
No image wrong image!
Loading...[PD98IMG.zip]

Then you see a bar on the right while the image (PD98IMG.zip) is loading...

One the loading is complete, it says:

"parsing....[PD98IMG.zip]"

Then it just goes right back to the original HBOOT screen again.

I have no idea what to do from here. I hope that someone out there has had the same problem and will be able to help me out!

I don't know if this matters, but every time i see a situation like this on other forums, people's devices seem to show S-OFF, while my brother's shows S-ON. Does this make it harder to fix??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

s-off makes it easier because you can load any PD98IMG as long as it's for your phone. Meaning you could load older ones, the newest one or anything in between. Being s-on, you can only load whatever was running on the phone at the time or newer (if it happened to exist).

So...we need to know if you have a branded phone and if so, with what carrier? Also, we need to know what the phone had running on it at the time of it's demise...Gingerbread? Honestly I don't even know what the latest OS is for this phone, I'll have to check back into things once I hear back from you. It sounds to me like you're doing everything right BUT there's a possibility that the file you're using is either not the most recent software or it's for a different carrier, either of which would likely cause it to fail. So let us know a few more details and I will attempt to find the right file. Also, it'd be helpful if you can link the file you are using so I can compare it to any other file we might try to help confrim or deny that we're on the right track with a culprit.

also,to run a full, signed RUU,the bootloader needs to be relocked.

did your younger brother unlock the phone? if so,he needs to open a cmd window, plut the phone in fastboot, and chage to his android directory(just like when he unlocked it),and enter this command:

fastboot getvar all
copy and paste the info here

then

fastboot oem lock

you may see a security warning, but thats ok. try and run your PH98IMG again.

if it fails, tell us what error you gert, and answer all the above so we can try and find you the correct RUU :)

Thanks for helping me out with this! Much Appreciated!

To answer your questions:

The phone was branded to telus but the boot loader has been unlocked
Before it crashed, it was running Gingerbread v2.3.5

Here is the link for the PD98IMG.zip that I tried:

Android Revolution HD - Mirror Site

hope this helps.

Unfortunately, my computer doesn't recognize my phone with or without the SD Card inserted
