He wasn't working on it, he announced in a thread that he was going to if/when he had the time and the skills, which all turned out to be in short supply.

I think the best answer is that HDMI has a chance of working after Cm9 has been RELEASED and running on the MT.
Cm9 is rumored to have HDMI support. If it gets shipped in Cm9 I believe there is enough interest and progress on the MT hardware to make some progress.
As much as I would like it, I do not expect to see it much before February.
There is a lot of ongoing effort in porting ICS. A lot of it is many developers duplicating the same work in parallel. Advancement is mind numbing quick and hard to keep up with, since almost nothing is stable.
