Help HDMI video output quality

vet3shaws

Newbie
On my current HDMI output, I notice a dithering problem, rastering, unsure what it's called anymore. Basically the color depth looks like it's 12-bit or so, maybe less. I'll try to post pictures to show what I see on my TV screen. Yet on the phone it is clearly smoother, less posterizing. I'm sure not being thrown off by the resolution difference. It's a color depth issue.

Here is my review at Meritline:

"Great price for a good product. I'm not certain it's great product because the color depth is low, which perhaps is the fault of my Motorola Triumph on Virgin Mobile. But it's a great phone, does the output, sound comes through, all that. The resolution looks the same, but the color depth is better on the phone."

That's for the "6' High Speed HDMI With Ethernet Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable, Type A Micro HDMI to Type D HDMI Cable, For Smartphones with Micro HDMI Port"
SKU: 192-878

I gave product a 4 star, but really want a 5 star output. Is this a cable or MT issue? Maybe firmware, or a fixed driver? I'd hate to think this is hardware. Anyone getting better output than me?

Please post pictures and fixes.

I will be shocked if this is not a phone issue. The RAM necessary to provide 24 bit color depth on a HDMI screen can be very considerable.

There just isn't that much memory in these phones, and the GPU, while perfectly fine for a phone screen, is going to be marginal (at best!) for a full HDMI system.

ive seen youtube vids of people using hdmi with this phone... and they say its perfect. so i dont know. if i had a hdtv i'd test for you

Here's what I've found using the HDMI cable.
Video from websites like tv.com are pixelated because the resolution is low.
Video stored on my SD card is clean and beautiful to watch.
The display of the Motorola screen itself looks good too. Although when held vertically, the screen only fills the center of the HDTV screen. When it's held horizontally, it fills the HDTV screen.
I stream video from different sites and they all seem to downsize it for phone screens. I haven't found a way to increase the resolution to look great on a big screen. But it works in a pinch and I have other video from my SD card.
Hope that helps.
