Root Head spinning on recovery

There's your problem! Woohoo.
If you read the first dozen posts you will see that mkbkr1 has set this up to be used without a PC.
I made the same mistakes when I was helping check out the functionality of everything in his tutorial.
You can't download the files to a PC. They have to be downloaded straight to the phone.

You can use ROM Manager. Don't use the reboot into recovery option right after the initial install. You have to do it manually.
Remember, it will not install the proper flash_image to your phone. If you want to change the recovery later on, you will have to install the proper flash_img.

If you want to install the proper flash_image and recovery now just go to mkbkr1's tutorial and do everything straight from your phone. Remember the IHO recovery and put xionia v12518.4 on the sd card in case you ever have a recovery loop.
The selection button on the IHO recovery is the camera button. Wow wait a minute. Did you try using the camera button to make selections with the CWMod recovery from ROM Manager? You still have it installed. CWMod v3.2.0.1
I can't believe I didn't catch that from the start(kicking myself in rear end).

I uninstalled cwmod... Should I reinstall it or leave it off and follow what you said and do straight from phone?

From guide:
"I recommend using the xionia recovery to flash the 2.2 roms and the IHO recovery for the various IHO ROMS(Backside, MiRaGe, Bobzhome). These recoveries have been updated to work on both the older and new screens to avoid the black screen of death."

"3. Open Terminal Emulator and type the following commands (spaces are red)

su(return)
mount_-o_remount,rw_-t_yaffs2_/system_/system(return)
cat_/sdcard/flash_image_>_/system/bin/flash_image(return)
chmod_755_/system/bin/flash_image(return)
flash_image_recovery_/sdcard/"recovery.img"(return)
reboot_recovery(return)
Note: Make sure you enter the name of the recovery exactly as it appears on you sd card in place of "recovery.img" ".... The one i want for stock or any Rom based on Froyo 2.2.1 is xionia recovery right?

You have the recovery on your phone right? When you mentioned in your initial post that you couldn't get it to work I assumed it was a bad install.
Did you actually see the recovery menu with 8-9 options in yellow script?

Only four options, none backup and recovery.

Ok your in the stock recovery.
Follow mkbkr1's tutorial. Just do everything from you're phone.

I think I got it now. Took some more looking around but I got them to download after installing Androzip on phone. :D Just one thing, I have to move them from Download folder to root of SD card, I figured that out. The guide says They are (.img) but they say (.bin). Do I change the extention on the file, or type (.bin) in Terminal Emu instead of (.img)... or nothing except renaming them? The also come through as a alphanumeric file name that makes no sense, I know how to rename it, I tried to use (.img) at the end and it yelled at me. Or am I still doing something wrong?

Reason for getting Androzip is I kept getting download errors on the phone.

I know, I know... you guys wanna ban me for being a waste of space and I would completely understand.

Your problems are our problems.
They should be img files.
let me do some thinking and research for a little bit. I'll try and download and see what I get.

EDIT: Downloads were good. Flash_image is a bin file(I forgot).
I'll post links you can download from your PC.

Am I making my own issues but using Androzip?
I could not download those file without it but, mkbkr1 said NONE of his files are zipped. What else could I need on the phone that won't treat it as a zip? After download is done, Androzip opens. Just thinking out load I guess.

I forgot to ask! Are you using WiFi with phone or 3g?
AndroZip is not the problem. I use it.
There is something wrong getting them downloaded to phone.

On wifi, on my own network. Even deleted them and tried again two or there times.

I tell ya step by step.

I go to the guide, scroll down to the links, click on the link.
It takes me to a page called m.box.com, I click download, DL completes, go to File manager (ver. 1.12.1 Rhythm Software). Go to sdcard/download, first item in there is the one I just did. Long press for menu, select Move, click Home goes back to sdcard, paste. It moves it.
Also tried same thing through Androzip.

The icons are a black square with grey binary codes and a white square on the right at the bottom that says BIN.
Hope it helps.

Sorry, Didn't see it. Let ya know. They look good and are on sd card. Don't know if i will get to type the commands in tonight but, hopfully tommorow.
Thanks.

Well...
Good news is I got it to work and got the right recovery screen.
Bad news is its been on the screen with a top hat and a loading arrow for 45 mins. While doing a backup.

Is it bricked or can I reset it somehow without killing it?

Was I suppose to reinstall Rom Manager again. I forgot I had uninstalled it.

No. You have to use the camera button to select an option.
Hit whatever button you hit to get where it's at now. Should be back in the menu.

Thanks for all the help guys, I gotta stop over-thinking stuff and stick to one guide. reading multiple one can get quite confusing. And don't get me started on YouTube video guides.

Back-up said it was successful... One more question on this recovery part.
How can I tell if it was, or do I take its word for it?

Other than that, all good now.

If the recovery made a backup you will see it both in the restore option and on the sd card in the clockworkmod folder/backup folder. The date stamps will match.
