I think a problem for manufacturers may be in the different platforms
that you can get android on. What will work on the evo may not
work on the moto droid even though they both have android os.
Much easier to develop for iPhone ipad and iPod, since hardware will
be compatible.

I just bought these. Great price, and it has the features I need. I always hit the volume on the device itself anyway. Play/Pause and Skip is all I ever used on my iPhone, so these are perfect. Thanks was given.
Any wired headphone will work. Even any wire will work; if you were to connect the Evo to speakers with a simple 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack, the FM radio will work. Can you listen to the FM radio with these head phones as well?

These came w/ my nexus one and work fine. Fit and sound leave something to be desired tho. I'm thinking since these work, and also work on MANY other phones including BB's and iPhones, that any headphones that work w/ iPhones and BB's will work more or less functionally w/ an Android phone. Does that rationale work, or is my reasoning flawed?
I'm seriously looking at the UE SuperFi 5vi. Just as long as the mic works I'm good, but the button would be a plus.
If we're talking about regular TRRS 3.5mm jacks, there's no such thing as a manufacturer specific headphone from a hardware standpoint. It's a software dependant solution. The mic/center button grounds a signal momentarily and it's dependent on the iPhone, Palm, or Android device to pick that up and interpret the signal correspondingly -- to pause music, pick up a phone call, etc.
