Accessories Headphones with built in mic and controls

HF2? What are those? I still need to get my hands on some ER-4s...

EDIT: Ah. They're ER-4s with handset controls built in? (I assume that they're ER-4s because of the size of the driver enclosure.)

I need a wired headset with mic on this phone... will try the OEM blackberry, hopefully it works somewhat. or else i am lost =(

You have it backwards. The real question is, is the Evo compatible with it. I've been trying to say, these features are a phone/hardware side issue, not with the headphones. People need to test the Evo with any set of headphones with controls.

Is this another one of those fixes that are in Froyo but not 2.1? Weird that Android sets have been out for a while now but no good wired headset solutions are available. While it may be necessary to add drivers or do something to the Android OS code, this just seems like a noticeable gap that should be closed by now. It's not a deal breaker, but it is tremendously annoying.

I think a problem for manufacturers may be in the different platforms
that you can get android on. What will work on the evo may not
work on the moto droid even though they both have android os.
Much easier to develop for iPhone ipad and iPod, since hardware will
be compatible.

Is the audio/mic feature that well integrated that it can't be fixed with updates in Android? This is one of the things Google will have to solve if that's the case.

I have a pair of Ultimate Ears 220v that worked well with my Palm Pre. On the EVO, they only play and pause, I can't double click for next track. A double click on the EVO redialed the last person I called.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I am looking for a pair of headphones with a mic. When you guys say that they don't work with the Evo, does that mean that the controls (skip song, pick up call etc) don't work with the Evo, or that the microphone itself isn't going to work, even if i manually answer the call?

I was looking at the Bose headphone w/mic, but Bose support emailed me back and said that the Evo wasn't supported. :(

To throw another into the mix...

I've been using a Plantronix 855 stereo BT that has worked great on the Hero, 1.5 & 2.1 both. No issues at all, and in 2.1 it recognizes it even if I've used my H710 in between. That's a thought!

I just bought these. Great price, and it has the features I need. I always hit the volume on the device itself anyway. Play/Pause and Skip is all I ever used on my iPhone, so these are perfect. Thanks was given.

Can you listen to the FM radio with these head phones as well?

Just to shed a small amount of light on this subject...

I have the apple "in-ear" headphones (earbuds) with remote and mic... left over from the days when I had an iphone (thanks to the EVO those days are over for good).

Amazon.com: Apple In-ear Headphones with Remote & Mic: Electronics

Anyway...

The remote and mic integrated on this headset surprisingly *sort-of* work on the EVO 4G!

Earbuds : Sound good... no contact problems (i know some of these multi-contact jacks work horrible with certain plugs)

Mic : Works great, just used it on a phone call and there were no complaints.

Remote : I only have experience with the Pandora app on android so far... but while listening to Pandora...

1-Click on the center button pauses/resumes playback.

2 or more Clicks on the center button tries to skip to the next track but it results in Pandora exiting and the phone dials your last dialed phone number.

Holding the center button launches the voice dial application.

The volume up/down buttons do nothing.

So... more functionality than I thought would be there. Just glad the earbuds/mic work good. I was going to buy a new set for this phone... but I might actually keep using these earbuds (just wish they were black, I hate apple-white).

I am a Professional Wrench, While working on cars I would prefer to leave my EVO on my tool box (to keep it safe from damage & clean), I am trying to find out if there is a 802.11g Wireless option (or other) that would allow me to wander more than the 30 foot limit of Bluetooth while my EVO is SYNCed with my employers router and being able to listen to the Sirius / XM App or Music stored on the EVO and still be able to answer calls & Place Voice activated calls...

Any recomendations?

i have the klipsch s4i earbuds. I didn't buy them for my evo but bought them bc they're an awesome pair of earbuds and the store didn't have the s4. The volume buttons don't work but the answer button does have some limited functionality. It can answer, end, and dial out the most recent call. Sound-wise they sound great for the money. Better in many ways then my shure earbuds.

Forgot to mention the answer button will also work as a play/pause button for music.

I've tried 7 headphones with mic controls at different price levels raging from $20. to $110.. The issue with mic controls not working to full capacity has to do with the software and not the headphone type. The HTC Hero as well other Androids have the same problem. Case in point, I came across an app for the HTC hero that fixes this issue just for HTC Hero. The developer blames HTC for not addressing this. So hopefully it'll be a matter of time before someone develops an app for the EVO.

In the mean time the only control that works is turning the music on/off on any of the one's I've tried. BTW, among the headphones with mic that I tried were a pair from Apple made for the iphone at $79. dollars. They had the worst quaility sound.

The one's I found to be the best for me, are the Sony MDR-EX38ip. They're made for the Iphone and sold at Radio Shack but in my opinion they deliver superior sound quality at $39.99. They're recommended by Radio Shack employees as best for the EVO and they're hard to come by because they sell out quickly here in the NYC area. I use them with "MIXZING", an app from the Android market. Mixzing has it's bugs but it has an equalizer which allows you to control the sound of your music. There's a free and a paid version. I'm using the free and it's buggy but they've making updates and improvements. Not perfect yet but did work for me without a problem on a rooted rom, OMJ version from XDA developers. Not advocating rooting since it can leave you hanging and no where to turn for immediate help if something goes wrong. It also voids your warranty. This is my first response post so, please be kind.

i went bluetooth route and got plantronics backbeat 903 for $50 at Frys, they now have the 906 model for about $15 more i think. THey are good but the over the ear style, not cool looking but do the job and you can use them with nearly all the features u mentioned, they keep a good charge and do the job for me. im not a huge music listener though

These came w/ my nexus one and work fine. Fit and sound leave something to be desired tho. I'm thinking since these work, and also work on MANY other phones including BB's and iPhones, that any headphones that work w/ iPhones and BB's will work more or less functionally w/ an Android phone. Does that rationale work, or is my reasoning flawed?

I'm seriously looking at the UE SuperFi 5vi. Just as long as the mic works I'm good, but the button would be a plus.

If we're talking about regular TRRS 3.5mm jacks, there's no such thing as a manufacturer specific headphone from a hardware standpoint. It's a software dependant solution. The mic/center button grounds a signal momentarily and it's dependent on the iPhone, Palm, or Android device to pick that up and interpret the signal correspondingly -- to pause music, pick up a phone call, etc.

As my earlier post notes -- if the software on the phone supports it, then the headphones are irrelevant, they are universal.

I have the UE SuperFi 5vi as well and they work great.
